    Looking at your your car I'd guess Series 2, but it could very well be a modified Series 1. I think the VIN number is your best bet.

    The only thing that gives me real pause is 1) you say it is a 98 and 2) the side skirt appears to be an aftermarket one and thus it may have been modified beyond that.

    I understand your confusion it REALLY looks like a Series 2.

    Is there any documentation that came with the car, a service history? Might give you some clues.

    if its a berlina the series II will have the traction button opposite the power button near the shifter, as well as some other trip options. but like you have mentioned anybody can change these. best bet is the VIN!

    try this linkVin Numbers

    i'd give your local holden dealer a ring and find out for sure, its not that hard to make a s1 look like an s2, its only taillights, side repeaters and a badge
    Chev badges are an instant fail

    What date was your car manufactured? Check the stamp under the hood (near passenger headlight I think) and it will tell you a month and year, then we can base it from there

    Check the tare weight on the rego too, the Berlina S2 was 1555kg. I don't know what the series 1 Berlina weighed, but in the executive, the series 2 was 39kg''s lighter.

    ^^ the H and S in the VIN is the engine type. H = the V6 and S = Super Charged engine.

    Year of M/F

    97 = V
    98 = W
    99 = X
    00 = Y
    01 = 1

    Good info there mate.... So when you have a Series 1 and a Series 2 car both built in the same year, my car for instance is a 2001 VX SS built in late July and the 2001 Series 2 came out in August of the same year, how do you tell what is what via the VIN, is it to do with the number after the L, ie after a certain number they become Series 2's??

    thanks for all the replies... im guessing its a one made to look like a 2.. because it was built jan 99 (myname thing had 98 because that what i was told before i picked it up)

    it has no traction control and deadlock is by key only... so that leads me to it being series 1 tricked up... i defs no the spoiler and skirts are ss

    i checked ll my service history etc and it doesnt say series 2 and im guessin they wouldnt bother sayin series 1.
    and to what drewie said yeh i did a vin search and it told me the year and all that but doesnt actuall say if its a one or a 2.

    The years dont run on calendar year. Not 100% sure, but its August or September that the changeover happens

    Hi, I have a series 2 Berlina, on the dash it will indicate what gear selection you have, i.e. D,R,3,2,1 the series 1 Berlina does not have it.
