Did a search and only came up with stuff that made no sense. Can I put a 1996 3800 VS motor in a 1998 VT? Is everything the same. I ask this because everything looks the same
Youd need to swap a few things...pretty sure the engine mounts are different (brackets on one side anyway), exhaust headers are different and the VS ecotec did not have an EGR valve.
I went the other way - putting a vx engine into a vs....which I since sold
Hot Red VX SS - 5.7L Gen3, Pacemaker tri-y's, Dual 2.5", 6 Speed, 3.47 LSD, 18" HSV Clubsport wheels
Stereo - Alpine 9887, JL 300/2, Audison LRx1.1k, Image Dynamics IDMAX 12", Focal 165VR's + Dynamat
dont mean to be rude but why would u put an older engine in a newer car and not get a nwer model engine like from a vx, vy into ur vt rather then going from a vs to a vt????? unless u already had the engine sitting different story, personaly i would go for the vx or vy engine that has more kw in power and for a cheap ampunt to these days vt vx vy motors go for as little as 500 bucks dont know if people agree with me just my opinion really!
depending on which state your in, i'm not sre about the rest of aus but in sa, you can't put an older motor into a newer car.
the motor needs to be the same year or newer
Chev badges are an instant fail
OK, now I am looking for a VX, or VY V6 motor. thanks all
The 3.8 in VT's onwards had Aircon as standard. As they say mounts are different because it uses a different K frame (the crossmember the whole engine sits on).
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
