I would go 38 psi minimum. On long highway trips go to 42-43. 45 would be the absolute max, low profile tyres are a hard ride at the best of times.

what about 235/45/17...? Mine are currently at 44, brand new tyres and alot of road noise, not sure if that is normal or not...

all depends on tred pattern for noise i would go 40 -42 for all low profile tyres.

I have posted this before but here are my starting pressure recommendations based on tyre profile. As always, every car, driver and tyre is different so pressures should be adjusted accordingly.

> 55 series = 32psi
50 series = 34psi
45 series = 36psi
40 series = 38psi
35 series = 40psi
30 series = 42psi

So petesmith your 235/45R17 will be 36psi.

If tyres are wearing on the outer edges the pressure is too low. If the centre of the tread is wearing faster than the outer edges the pressure is too high. Those carrying heavy loads should increase pressure accordingly.

36, well mine are a bit high then! They aren't a well known brand, i have been told by my brother (a mechanic) that if they are hard compounded tyres that can create the noise or something, and because they are what seems to be a crappy and cheap brand, maybe thats why there is alot of road noise....?
Happened on another car of mine too, but after i had done a few km's, the road noise started to fade and has since disappeared...will adjust my pressures to 36 and see how it goes...

I run 36psi in a 55 series (225/55R16) and get perfectly even tyre wear. My dad was running 32psi in the same size tyre on his VY and they were wearing unevenly.

imo:
65/60 series = 34psi
55/50 series = 36psi
45/40 series = 38psi
35/30 series = 40psi

just dropped to pressure to 36, looked a bit too low so put it up to 38, still road noise, no difference at all.... maybe its just the crappy tyres...hmmm...hope not!
