Hi All,
I have a 98 VT Wagon, V6 on gas since yesterday however was having this noise since before gas.
When i accelerate, just behind the dash it sounds like there is water or some sort of liquid gushing to and/or from somewhere. Quite loud when the radio isn't on and im driving but not quite as loud when the car is in park and i put the down accelerator at idle.
The car has been through 3 or 4 mechanics over the past 3 weeks (stupid RWC) and noone has picked up on it so im guessing there is nothing wrong with it, at least i hope so, but maybe someone can shed some light on what it might be and if it's normal?
Thanks in advance!
Weird, noticed that on mine today (we just got the engine mounts changed so it's real quiet). No idea what it is, but on mine it happens only for a few minutes after I turn it on... then seems to fade.
No idea what it is, first I thought water caught in the drain points- no. Then I thought washer bottle- no. Only thing I can think of is the coolant system, and I haven't noticed it till now because of the noise of the engine on the shredded and collapsed mounts.
No leaks that I can find...
I am unsure really, hopefully someone knows what's going on.

I'll be he comes to get you, some shopping trolley kind of thing, that gets you where your going nice and slow... Well off you go that's fine, the pleasure's all mine.
When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
My VR used to do it, And I'm "pretty sure" It's got something to do with your air con liquid or something similar, Could be wrong, But I def used to get it on my old car, And was told it's nothing to worry about.

yeah not worried either, and true mostly happens when the car is cold or when you first turn it on, does fade as your drive further.... my air con needs regassing so i wouldn't think it would be that but who knows, could be wrong!
As long as it's nothing to worry about, its all good.
Quick question MikeCuzzy, when your engine mounts were stuffed, did you have alot of road noise? I was told that my engine mounts are on their way out but they passed RWC the other week so i wouldn't think they would be that bad otherwise they wouldn't have passed...
You probably need to bleed the cooling system because it sounds to me like you have air in there which causes the gushing sound you described.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Yes this is an air lock or low coolant....
Doubt it's low coolant, was serviced last week, and don't worry my mechanic is a local country mechanic and he is brilliant... and I already checked.
@petesmith
With the mounts one was shredded and the other completely collapsed (was riding on metal), it wasn't road noise but there was really rough vibration in Neutral and in 2nd. Also there was a lot of noise coming from the engine, we thought it might have been on the way out, but seems not. Apart from physically checking the mounts, if there is strong (seriously strong) vibration at idle, could be the mounts. Also because one was collapsed if you revved up beyond 3k quickish, the engine would create an unpleasant thud, from moving around on what was left on the mount.
If they are almost gone, you should get them replaced. If your local mechanic can do it, I'd wait for the next service. Mine did it with the service, think the mounts were $85ish whole service was about $440 and we had to replace a few bits and pieces (air filter/oil filters for example) and he gave it a once over. So he didn't really charge much more for labor. Feels weird, like a new car![]()

Heater pipes may be leaking?
couldn't be low coolant, new radiator and coolant level is fine. Sounds like it might be air in the system then...hmmm..how to get it out??
@MikeCuzzy
Thanks for that. No vibration really, don't think they desperately need doing, i asked my mechanic how much he would charge, he said $150 to fit and i know i can get them for about $150 too, maybe thats expensive, dunno if thats genuine holden or aftermarket though...
Will get them looked at next service and see what condition they are in and take it from there.
Reason i asked is because i have alot of road noise at the moment and its starting to piss me off quite alot! Just got new tyres so thinking it might be that....
Warm the engine up to normal operating temperature, then with the motor running slowly undo the bleeder screw on the thermostat housing just enough to let the air escape then do the screw up again. Repeat this procedure until no more air comes out, only coolant. Be careful not to burn yourself and make sure you have the heater temperature control on full. Make sure that the engine is at normal operating temperature to ensure that the thermostat is open.
