Idea to block EGR pipe to check if causing bad idle
Basically what the title says. My engine is idling a bit rough and also hesitant when acclerator is pushed, and also sound like it missing when you let go of accelerator. A recent code test gave an "EGR out of position" error. Basically I want to check if the EGR is letting exhaust gases into the engine all the time. Or some other member even had a leaking EGR pipe causing problems.
So I was thinking of using a welch plug to cover the EGR pipe hole in the back of the inlet manifold. Before anyone says this is illegal, this will only be temporary, if it fixes problem then I take plug out and get new valve, if it doesn't then I take it out and reattach pipe. Basically just thinking welch plug because they are cheap. Don't want to spend over a hundred dollars on just diagnosing problem.
Anyway would this work or has anyone else got any theories?
