Hi All,
Car: 1998 VT 50th Anniversary Wagon
Got news tyres recently, probably 1000km's ago, 235/45/17.
Still have alot of road noise coming from the front, have played around with the pressures, no difference. On the old tyres, i can't remember if there was this much road noise, certainly don't think there was otherwise i would have looked into it sooner. Any ideas what this might be? I have thought maybe wheel bearings but they usually become not noisy when turning corners and that doesn't seem to be happening...so not sure, any help appreciated!!
Also, when accelerating, quite a loud noise coming from the rear of the car, don't thin its from the tyres otherwise it would happen accelerating or not. Don't really know how to explain what the sound is like. How do i know if it is the diff or not? If it's not that, what else could it be?
Sorry for all the questions, have only had the car about 3-4weeks, has been through 3 mechanics getting different things for RWC done and noone seems to be picking up on things that i am...
Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance!![]()
Were the tire you got the same as what was on it originally if not that would be why as there are thousand's of 235/45/17 tire designs some noisy some not.
With the noise from the rear if you can't explain how it sounds that's absolutely no help as it can be many different things so record it and post it up.
going off your vague description i would say the rear end noise is from the diff, easy to check, speed up to 100 on a freeway, windows up music off, then flick it into neutral and listen if you hear the noise slow down when the vehicle does its the diff, how many k's has it done?
will try and record to noise tomorrow and post it up...
its done 186,000k's.
Don't think its the diff if thats what it does cause the sound is only there when accelerating, as soon as i take my foot off the accelerator, the noise disappears...
Sorry for such a vague description. I think the tyre road noise is just the tyres, probly a crappy brand.
Mostly worried about the sound coming from the back of the car.
or bad wheel alignment? Is the noise when you accelerate gently? or from low speed? or from all speeds?
also as far as tyre noise, I'm thinking of getting tyres soon and now you have me worried. let me know its not toyo teos, because that is what I'm leaning towards.
