I replaced all 3 pulleys plus the drive belt for about $125 including labour, that was pretty cheap here in adelaide - other places wanted about $250, ultratune even wanted $450 lol

Idler pulleys will be noisy all the time while your engine is running. I think you might have engine mount problems. Check to make sure your sump has not been hitting the crossmember.

Ah yes, another possibility, i also had my engine mounts done at the same time as the pulleys.. pretty certain it was the pulleys making the noise though

btw are we talking about those pulleys where the belt runs on? (i don't know much about cars). i want to know because i think my car is doing the same. i had engine mount and drive belt replaced recently.

Yes the pulleys that you can see on the front of the engine, the idler pulleys are the 3 smaller ones

what!!!??? $5 for what? the pulley, or there's a bearing inside that only cost $5?

one place quoted me about $100 for that arm/pulley assembly when it was making squeaking noises after he replaced the belt for me with a non-genuine during servicing. i went to holden to get a genuine belt and the noise went away. not happy

edit: can someone recommend a mechanic around the neibourhood of wantirna, victoria?

The bearing inside the pulley $5 very easy to do..If thats the problem
I went to local garage....They quoted me $70 to change the bearing..Went to buy the bearing and done it myself for $5
To find where the noise is coming from they put a long handle screw driver onto the pulleys then put it to there ear to see which on was faulty

probably wouldn't hurt to check the harmonic balancer. I bought this vn and it was making some horrible sounds from the pulleys after changeing the idler pulley the screech was gone but it was knocking. At first I thought the worst like broken crank on further inspection the outer steel on the hb had come away from the rubber inner .
