    Default LSD on VT's ?

    hello guys.
All VT's come with LSD diff ?
I live in middle east, mine got an open diff. i don't know if the previous owner made a swap and installed an open diff instead of the LSD. but now i want an LSD.
where can i get one ? Or can i get only the internals and convert mine to lsd ?
what commodore models have the same diff as mine, if i want to buy a used one, will it fit from other models?
    thanks in advance.

the only models were the V8's but they were options on the V6's all including the Super V6, ive got a 9C1 pack and it came with one, its great, if you can get your hands on one you will love it!

the lsd or any other type of diff from, vx on, had a differnt connector to the driveshaft. You can update your drive shaft if you can only find an LSD from a later model.

ebay is a good place to start if you are looking for a second hand one or the internals. I think you may need at least the hi performance or an actual LSD to put in the internals to make it lsd.

the easiest way to tell if it is lsd, will be the tag on the sump plug stating lsd oil only.

I did mine in my supercharged 6, definitely worth it.

here is a link to a site that may give more info on the models and options.

hey if he said to you it has a lsd, it will cost him not you.

but there are heaps of posts on here on how to tell if you have an LSD, most of them are jack up the car and rotate one back wheel and see if the other one spins, in the same direction.

It varies from model to model, series to series.

Any NA v6 came with a 7.5" crown wheel diff.
v8's and the super 6 came with a tougher 8" Crown wheel

As far as I know, only the HSV models came garunteed to have an LSD, although it was a factory option on models.

Standard LSD is a cone type.

    sorry to hear that.

still if they said to you it has a lsd, I would chase that up with them, its gotta be against tpa, misrepresentation, or something like that.

good to hear about the rest of the car, being good. I have never regretted getting an lsd put in mine. it was, $400 off ebay, and another $100 to $200 to get fitted with the right oil etc.

    Cheap LSD = Bad.

Cone Type LSD's need good setup and tooth contact patterns to be tough, durable and not noisy.

I forked out to get it done right first time. Went from a 3.08 7.5" peg legger to a 3.73 8" LSD on my VT. $1465 with 12 month warranty fitted. Complete rebuild with new bearings and brand new FACTORY GEARSETS. This is the big thing. The metal castings used in the Borg Warner factory gearsets are harder and yet more durable than new repro's. A second hand set with no tooth face wear is much better than a new repro.

However - setting up pre loads and contact patches properley is not a job to do at home, or for a dodgy backyarder. Take it to and old experienced hand to do it properley.
