    Default Making exhaust note deeper

I put a set of pacemaker extractors on my car and I think it made it sound worse. Previously was just a lukey catback. What can i do to make the tone deeper I also have a resonator on the back.

Normally moving the muffler towards the front of your car will make the note deeper. The hard part is finding a mufffler that will fit around your floor pan and not hang down too low.

The larger the muffler will make it deeper.

Get a good highflow cat. i got pacies, a highflow cat and lukey 2 1/2'' on mine (no resonator) and its deep idle (a mate told me it sounded like it was cammin up the other day :P ) and roars at high revs (as much as an ecotec can ofcourse :P) also come out of your pacies at 2 1/4 into your cat back. hope this helps

It does have the high flow cat on it as well. I would say we have a near identical system but i've got a resonator. I did have complications when I first put the extractors and highflow cat on. The exhaust centre screwed the car pretty good made it so the car wasn't using all its cylinders. Another problem that still remains is that it has a miss when I rev it dunno what the problem is there but never existed before I put the extractors and high flow cat.

Did you pull off the leads when you put the extractors on? If you did, check if they are on the right plugs. you may have also damaged a lead when pulling them off (they can be damaged easily) Im pretty sure the cylinders are numbered from front right to back left (standing at the front facing the windscreen) check your leads and if it still misses you might need a new set.

I did a full exhaust years ago on a VR Statesman. It had Advance headers center muffler and resonator. Sounded really low and good almost like a V8 and actually fooled a lot of guys and went really good also for a 6, but interesting how you said yours has a miss when you rev it cause I had the same problem. No one could ever work out why it had this miss but it didn't affect how it ran as it only missed when you gave it a rev out of gear. I eventually had to put another engine in it cause that one cooked but it never had that miss with the new engine.

When the problem first occured and I took it back to the exhaust centre they thought it was the leads and they put a new set of leads on and it didn't fix the problem. Thanks for the advice though.

I talked with the exhaust centre today and they said what they could do is change the pipe from the centre muffler (Lukey) and make it a 3 inch pipe rather then a 2.5 and put a 3 inch resonator on the back.

I've got a great exhaust centre here. They only want $200 for the resonator and 3 inch pipe

    I've heard twin 2.5"on a V6 N/A was a bad idea.

When i did the VP exhaust we played with many resonators until i was happy. we went from soft to growl to deep. That rear muffler can do wonders to the note sound.

Cubes and slugs give you a great exhaust note. 304/8 of them seem to give the best - nfi why, just does. More cubes doesn't hurt. Less slugs seem to sound like a broken hoover.

Exhaust centres. Back in the day I was going to put a 3" on my EF XR6, and every place I rang said nope, 2.5 is biggest you can put on a 6. Any bigger and it would DEcrease performance and wouldnt sound decent either.

3'' is said to be bad for 6's because the exhaust cools down too quickly and therefore doesn't move through the pipe as easy. but if it sounds good, who cares :P though i've never personally heard a single 3 on a 6
