    Default Car OVERHEATING ???????????????????Please help

    Hi there
    I have a 98 vt commodore
    I have flushed the Radiator
Bleed the air out of radiator
My car normaly sit around 89 degrees
But sometimes my car creeps up to 3/4 On the tem gauge...Hot days or cold days .....Then i stop the car...Never has been above 3/4
Note: I do not have therosat
Water pump looks like its been changed at one stage.......

Having no therosat car sould make car run colder on cold days????
So what do you think about this????
    Any comments more than welcome

    Thanks in advance

I have looked around heater tap and around radiator hose....Could not find any leaks
Looked around water pump no leaks

When a water pump fails internally does it always make a weird noise????
Has anyone had a water pump that has failed internally.. not leaking from outside and no weird noise?????

Thermostats are in there for reason. If they ran better without them Holden wouldnt put them in there. Engines need a certain temp to run properly. Running to low a temp for to long can cause problems.
Have you had it pressure tested? Could be a head gasket...

    Just my thoughts
Running without therosat...engine won't warm up so heater won't work??
But in my case engine running around 89 degress.......Going to 3/4 only happens about twice in 6 months...

No i havn't had prssure test done as yet

Thanks for your help... What do you think about this?

I have noticed when i fill up the radiator and bleed the air out....I fill it right up till it sits below the overflow pipe..
But when its cold first thing in morning it takes very small amount to refil to that point...Around 100ml
Is my car loosing water???..Or thats the way it is???
    Any comments welcome
    Thanks in advance

Try a new radiator cap. When your engine cools down coolant should be sucked out of your overflow bottle into the radiator so it is always full to the top. Any leak in your cooling system will let it suck air into the system instead of the coolant from your overflow bottle. The seal on your radiator cap goes hard after a while and will leak air so it will not suck coolant out of your overflow.
Running a motor without a thermostat will cause bore wear because your pistons warm up and expand while your cylinder bores are still cool and have not expanded so things get tight which causes wear. You will also use more fuel because your temp sensor sends a signal back to the computer so it pumps more fuel in while cold and it takes a lot longer for your engine to warm up.

    Regarding presure testing.....
Will this tell me if my radiator is blocked???
Or water pump gone??? My water pump is not making any weird noise's and doesn't seem to leak around it
But Can a water pump fail internally but no weird noise's???????????????????????

Getting it pressure tested will tell you where a leak could be. Either by the water coming out of a crack in the radiator, a split or something in a hose, or possibly into a cylinder if your head gasket has gone. Have a look at the oil on your dipstick. Is it milky at all? If so that also indicates your head gasket.

No sure myself exactly. Best bet is to just go in and ask them. Sometimes you get an idiot but there is usually one cluey bloke around each store that will be able to discuss what you need. If the rest of your engine just stock? And is there any certain reason you dont want to run a standard thermo?

i had the same problem and my ended up to be the radiator. it has a small crack at the top like your vr and it's losing water all the time. it's also about 30% clogged at the bottom, even after numerous flushing. only found this out after sending the radiator to the radiator place for checking. if you're going to do a pressure test, make sure they do it for at least half a day. my was "supposedly" done a couple of times and found to be ok. either it actually wasn't done properly or didn't do for long enough.

edit: btw pressure test won't tell you if the radiator is clogged, only leaking.
