Hey guys, i have been searching the forums for the past two hours and can't find exactly what i am looking for.
My question is, i have drained the radiator of my VT via the bottom radiator hose, but i would also like to drain both: a) the overflow reservoir and b) the engine block
i have removed one of the knock sensors but hardly any fluid came out. If i replace the bottom radiator hose and the knock sensor, then remove the hose from the thermostat and pour water from a garden hose down the top hose, will this flush out the block? Do i need to have the car running at this point? and do i need to fill the radiator before i do this?
Thanks for your help guys
To flush the block, remove both rad hoses, remove thermostat housing, remove thermostat, clean surfaces of old gasket material, flush water through block, replace thermostat, new gasket, replace hoses, fill & bleed system.
you probably should flush the heater core as well, you can do this by removing one of the hoses from the engine near the water pump and turning on the heater tap to hot and put some water through it using a hose but be gentle on the pressure you use.
I took my overflow bottle out to empty it and give it a good clean when I flushed my cooling system last year.
