You will need to change a hell of a lot. Engine, trans (Alloytec uses 5 speed), exhaust, intake, pedals (alloytec yses drive-by-wire), ECU, BCM, plus more stuff I can't think of.

Why bother? The Ecotec is a fine engine.

$6500 in repairs you could buy 3 complete rebuilt motors for that price either your getting ripped off or you have the most worked ecotech out lol

What have you repaired to pay that much?

You could get a properly rebuilt engine for only a few grand and drop that in. Whereas the Alloytec conversion will cost heaps, and then may still cause troubles.

Conversion isn't worth it, for the same price you could upgrade to a VZ anyway, which is a better car in many regards aside from just the engine.

What is actually wrong with your car?

You'd be lucky to get a "new" Ecotec fitted for $1,500. Suggest you have another chat with your mechanic, those numbers are just wrong.

i never said it would be a "new" engine. they cost $5000+, and the comment about seeing me coming a mile away that would only work if someone was to buy something over priced

You spent $6500 to repair your Ecotec and now you want to spend more money to put a whole new motor in. I'd say they saw you coming. And then rang around every business in the area to tell everybody else about you.

Even a changeover engine is going to be in the $1500 region, then you have the trans, ecu's, converting to fly by wire.

You're being taken for a ride. Or, just plain enjoy ripping yourself off.

WOW you have a bit of a rant going on there and ha ha ringing around that's a laugh considering that the business that i went 2 ask. is fairly new in my area .and seeing me coming from a mile away i doubt you know the meaning of that expression.because if that were the case they would see me walk into the store and sell me something for double of what its worth, and the price for it is for a change over at least you got that one right , I'm not intending to put a "new"engine in

You obviously dont know the meaning of sarcasm. Even so, i fail to see how you spent $6500 on repairs and still have problems? You could buy a VT V6 in good condition for that price. You yourself said "and the comment about seeing me coming a mile away that would only work if someone was to buy something over priced" Pretty sure everybody here will agree that spending $6500 on a car to get it "fixed" and it not be fixed...is overpriced.

If you're being told that you can do the changeover for $1500, and that you dont need to replace anything else then you're being taken for a ride. And you being too ignorant to take any advice on it just shows how you got ripped off in the first place.

LOL @ getting the whole job done for $1500.....You'd almost spend that in just labour. It would cost you $400-$500 in labour to get just another Ecotec fitted, how do you intend on getting a complete conversion done for $1500?

the only place that i will say "ripped me off" was Holden!and if i thought about an engine swap in the first place i would have done it.and failing to see how you can spend $6500 in repairs you obviously are a very Narrow minded person because any car can cost you a lot more than the car is worth in repairs.maybe it was due to mistreatment by the previous owner which as anyone knows is a common problem with a second hand car sale!there is no 100% guarantee that even if you got it looked over by a mechanic that it will be trouble free!

You still didn't answer the question about what you got repaired and why it ended up costing you $6500. Maybe if you tell everybody that first they will flaming you.

I dont think they ripped you off. I think you ripped yourself off, and now you're angry about it.

I think the term is realist. I wouldnt go throwing thousands and thousands of $$ on a car, and at the end of it have a car that still isnt fixed.

Cant say i've ever needed to spend thousands and thousands on repairs on a used car, only at the end to have a car that's still rooted.

Like i said before, you've ripped yourself off, and you're a dreamer when it comes to repair costs.

By "new" I mean't "new for you" - aka, 2nd hand/reconditioned, not that the engine would be brand new. Doubt Holden even still sell Ecotec crate motors.

Your car sounds like a lemon. If you've already plonked $6,500 into it and it's still no good I'd just cut your losses and get something else. I realise used cars often need a bit of money spent on them to get them up to scratch, but $6,500 is just silly money to spend on a VT. Get something else that doesn't need as much work done to it.
