Default My fuel reading in my Vt is stuffed!!

    hey all,

yesterday i went to put fuel in my holden vt v6 ex. The fuel reading in the cluster said it was close to full. So i wanted to top it up because fuel was cheap, it ended up costing me $68 to fill?..... Wanted to know if i need a new cluster or could be a little thing i could fix to help.

    Cheers All,!

Does your needle drop to Empty when you turn your car off?

Just before you start your car, press and hold Mode and Up buttons, then start the car. Once your car is running, you can let go the buttons and scroll through until you get to "Fuel Remaining" screen. As you're driving, the fuel remaining number will drop. Just keep an eye on it for a few days as you drive around and compare that against your fuel gauge.

If the "Fuel Remaining" number doesnt drop after a few days long distance drive, your fuel level sensor in the tank is sticking or stuffed.

If the needle on your fuel gauge doesn't drop but your "Fuel Remaining" number is indicating correctly, its probably just your fuel gauge needle is stuck hard or bad contact at the back of the cluster.

yes it does. it'll tell you if the fuel gauge itself is working properly. if you have a stuck needle (mechanically), the sensor might still be working and so is the digital read-out.

Last I heard, Holden were still looking for suggestions as to how to fix this problem. They're well out of warranty now, and care factor has reduced to zero.
I saw this on hundreds, if not thousands of Commodores, and at the time there were almost as many campaigns from Holden attempting to rectify this problem.

The most common problem was that the fuel needle goes to empty before the actual level does, but above half it's fairly accurate. Because most customers had more fuel than they expected, it wasn't thought of as a critical fault.

vt petrol fuel tank is 75L. i never filled up my petrol tank before since mine is dual fuel. but 70L if the light only just came on doesn't sound right to me too.
