berlina steering wheel controls advice please

Hey all,
New member the wrong side of 50 and prefer to work on the corvette.so bit out of my depth here.
Iv'ejust picked up a VT Berlina series one, but it has an open circuit in airbag and wont reset.
so assuming clock spring defective?. As the steering wheel has a bit of a grip roll and fairly worn anyway,I found a complete cheap leather replacement, but it has the remote controls fitted.
Question is can I fit the wheel with its current clock spring without hooking up the remote controls??
or do I have to change the clock spring back to a standard one.

The controls screw off... They actually sell by themselves for $50-$70 on ebay....

Myself I changed my Executive wheel to a VX Calais II leather wheel (which had the controls)/

Also in future please check were you are posting.

Thanks Rich,which is the best area to post,as I need to find out if I can use the clock spring that came with the wheel
