I want to upgrade my stock vt exhaust system - Help needed

Hi there, I am running a stock exhaust system on my 3.8L Ecotec VT which has done 280,000kms lolz
It sounds sooo shit especially when i thrash it.. the screeching noise sooo puts me off..
I dont want to spend so much money into it tho coz after all it was 4k.. (i go to uni and am married so broke as hell :P) However, In saying that, I still want to know what the possibilities are.. so tell me about all the options i have...

I can weld and am thinking of doing things on my own (even though its probably illegal.. if i get it stickered ill just buy a stock system from wreckers and install it again..)
a week ago i had ABSOLUTELY no idea about exhaust systems but after a little research i got a little better..

I dont know if this will work but I was thinking of..

• Cutting the pipe after the centre muffler and running a 2 1/4 inch pipe all the way to a little cannon, maybe say 2 1/2 inch cannon. (i reckon removing the end muffler will make it really loud if it works)

the other thing (expensive) i was dreaming of doing is..

• buy pacemaker extractors
• hook em up to old cat and centre muffler and buy a hotdog or run it straight through to a 2 1/2 inch cannon...

I like cannon exhaust tips.. some ppl think im stupid to put em on commodores but i really really like em and reckon they would really fit with my custom monaro bodykit..

can just cut the rear muffler off and put a cannon or pipe in instead, will make it louder, but a cannons about $100
so may aswell chuck in a bit more and get a 2.5inch cat back for a couple of hundred. ebays good, i got a 2.5' red back cat back for $90 or 100 second hand.. . prettty sure there only $200 new

whats the difference between a cannon and a red back cat??

ps. would cutting off the muffler harm my engine at all? or decrease power?

DIFFERENCE IS - a cannon is gay and wont do anything performance wise
- a red back or any other 2.5' exhaust will sound better and go a bit better, its just a proper exhaust whereas a cannon is just a look thing (imo)

cutting off rear muffler wont harm ya car unless it catches on fire from the angle grinder,
but A new 2.5'one for under $200 is pretty good i reckon.
(lol, sorry to anyone with a cannon )

well i am only after a nice BIG tip and a loud noise.. by loud noise i dont want it to be v8 beefy or anything like that.. I just want it to sound loud when I floor it..
can u upload or give me links to what a catback looks like, what sections ur refering to, i know what they are and how they look like but dont know names..

I dont want to gain hp off my gay shittie v6 3.8L just want it to sound half decent when i drive or floor it..

Cut the resonator and muffler out of the exhaust and weld in two bits of pipe the same diameter. Works a treat and will cost you less than a carton of beer! Canons sound absolutely farked. What I suggested sounds a lot better and gives a nice amount of crackle when downshifting.

Well sounding loud and decent just don't go together with a V6, go for a nice cheap catback off ebay, will still be louder than now, flow better and you may even pick up a couple of kw's.

cuttin out both mufflers and having one resonator will make ur v6 drone like a beatch on the highway! i got headaches everytime i drove it more then 45mins! now i have a lukey highflow with a lukey resonator and pacies and its perfect, for me anyway.

I finally got a 2 1/2 inch high flow catback with a centre muffler and a 4" exhaust tip looks good and sounds alright. I expected it and wanted it to be louder really.. but thats alright I might put a little cannon to make it a little louder.. if only a hotdog was legal ahahahah
