hey all, ill be replacing the fuel pump in my stato today and was wondering if its better to drop the tank. i have never dropped a fuel tank in one of these before so if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated thanks.
its a 1999 wh statesman.
You will need to drop the tank. It is easier if there is not much fuel in there so remove as much as you can. It's been a while since I've done it but first take off all the hoses and wiring connectors ( you might want to mark where the hoses go back on). Then what I did was get a trolley jack and extend it up to the tank, with a plank of wood in between to protect the tank, just jack it up a bit to take the weight off. Then just undo the straps that hold the tank on, then slowly release the jack. You might need to manouvre the filler neck sideways a bit. I did it on my own but it would be easier with 2 people.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Defintely have minimal fuel left in the tank.
The hardest part is removing the fuel line connectors. One that goes to the filter and the one next to that. The weird one with a circle around it and the breather hose. If there isn't much fuel left, you can manouve it out by hand, otherwise good luck.
As for the pump, tip the sender upside down and you will know what is going on more.
thanks fellas, got it done, did it on my own, was a bit of farting around but wasnt as bad as i thought it would be......
