    Default VT Supercharged overheating problems

Hey guys, im new to the site. Any information regarding overheating, over pressurising in a supercharged L67 3.8LTR.

Its a Ported 17psi M90 charger with head work and 20tho over bottom end (all balanced)
Big Cam haltec computer W2A Tower of terror intercooler ETC. Engine has had around $15G spent on it and i dont wanna cook it completely.
I have changed water pump, radiator, all hoses, thermostat etc
When the engine is cold it holds pressure at 125kpa. As soon as u start it and it warms up. The pressure goes through the roof but looses water and over heats.

Any one have any idea what would cause this?

Where is the coolant going? Is it being pushed out the overflow bottle or is it going somewhere else. It does sound like a headgasket or cracked head. Only other thing i can think of is that your heater tap is not turning on so you cant fill your cooling system fully and have air in the cooling system before you start.

Its because of the heater tapp that all this started. i have just replaced it and it does work. im pretty sure the coolant is going through the exhaust. its got a real sweet smell to it lately...

You could check the spark plugs to see if any coolant is getting into your cylinders. There wont be any carbon on them if water is getting in.

yeh we pressure tested the radiator and removed spark plugs 1 at a time while turning the crank over by hand... we didnt loose pressure and had no water in cylinders, we are thinking its intake manifold gasket.

Quite possible it is intake manifold gasket as it seems to be a common problem even on standard engines. The extra boost you have will only make matters worse.

Replaced the LIM gaskets with metal ones. the plastic ones were screwed. but filled the radiator and bled the system. was running at the right temp untill we took it 4 a drive.
Overheated again, rebled the system and got heaps of air comin out. topped up the water and drove it again. then it over heated again...
    any ideas?

    Default regarding ur overheating

Hey there vts have you replaced the radiator as it could have blockages in the cooling fins i have a l67 and when the radiator went it was fine at idle but once you started driving bang its started overheating ,
if it has blocks it could be fine at idle to keep her kool but once you start driving it will overheat as the water is not circulating enough to keep it kool while at driving ,as to your previous replies you say you have check the radiator pressure it will hold its pressure as its not leaking anywhere but im am guessing it could be that ,dont hold me to that also have you changed thermostat etc .
good luck with it hope that helps .

    cheers bhopper
