Hi there
I got a pressure check done on the weekend
Trace down 3 tiny water leaks in 2 heater hose's and top radiator hose
So i fitted them all
Then i opened up the radiator cap
Undone the bleed screw
Started toping in up
It got to 90 degress but(i have 82 degrees thermosat)
I am not getting anything out of bleeding screw only air
I press the top readitor hose only hear air coming out
Little bit of water but its mostly air
I looked around no other water leaking
Can someone please share some light on this??????????
Please any comments Welcome
Thanks in advance
Are you using a funnel, sealed against the radiator filler neck, to lift the water level above the level of the bleed screw?
Thanks for the reply
Last time i did top it up i use a coke bottle cut in half
But this time i didn't bother.
But i will try this tomorrow
( when toping up i had heater on...and water was coming to top of radiator)
Is all this correct way to do this????
Or a funnel a better way??
Any other things could cause this??
Thanks for your help
Once water starts coming out the top of the radiator, start your engine and let it warm up so the thermostat opens and this should let most of the air out. Then put your cap back on and go for a drive around the block, then try bleeding air out through bleed nipples.
2 litre coke bottle with the bottom cut off. You have to stop air getting in the filler neck and get the fill level above the top of the thermostat. The illustration in the GM service manual shows the filling tool to be a glorified coke bottle but with an attachment like the outer rim of a radiator cap which is fitted to the radiator filler neck to hold the filling tool firm and water proof. Makes the job easy. So does a coke bottle. If you are doing a complete refill with coolant/inhibitor, put the inhibitor in first then top up with water.
just an addition to my previous post, where the rim on the neck of the coke bottle is, wrap it in a few layers of electric insulation tape for a better seal in the radiator neck
