Hey guys,
I have a problem with my T56 box that whenever i change gear, there is a grinding/whining noise coming from the gearbox. it is a rotating noise that changes with car speed and only happens in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
it is also happening when rolling in gear with the clutch engaged, but not when in neutral with the clutch disengaged.
Any ideas on what it might be? also, thinking worst case scenario, how much would a rebuild/recondition of a T56 box be?
thanks for your help,
josh

Does nit only make the noise when you change gear, or when driving in that gear?
What about when idling in neutral with clutch in and out? Does the noise go away?
Either a pressure plate thrust bearing, or worse, an internal bearing.
Call a gearbox place, they'll know approximate prices off the cuff.
its only when changing gear or when rolling in gear with the clutch in.
idling is fine in and out of gear with clutch in and out.
should be "better" that it is not when in gear and driving doesnt it?

Hmm... very hard to tell without hearing it.
Drive past a gearbox place and get them to have a quick feel. If you ask for a quote, they'll probably do a test drive for nothing.
Would it help if i told you my clutch pick-up point was right at the top of the pedal travel? so i hardly have to press the clutch for it to engage
Maybe the clutch isn't engaging properly?
funny thing is it isn't all the time.

Hey mate sorry to bring an old thread back to life but i'm having the same issue as this in my VY except its every gear. Did you end up finding what the issue was?
