Hey all,
my car has had its airbag fault light on for ages and just recently got my mechanic to reset the error code for me (Error XX Open Circuit). It went for about a day being fine no problems then bam(light turns on, stupid warning beep beeps) its back on again..... Does anybody know how to solve this problem. My mechanic basically said it probably just needs to be replaced. "if you do it yourself disconnect the battery for 2 hours then attempt"> This is something i would not particularly like to do but if anybody knows thats how to fix it i would appreciate any help![]()
what is you mechanic saying to replace? the airbag? unlikely.
Most common fault is clock spring in steering wheel
I suggest you take it to Holden to diagnose the problem, no point in replacing something if it isn't the problem.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
mechanic said to replace the airbag, i don't think its particularly worth going to holden, they will probably charge me 150 bucks just to get the tech2 out...
what happens to the clock spring in the steering wheel?
its around $80 to go to holden to get it diagnose, they'll be able to tell you what fault code means and what might cause the light to come on..
Yes most common fault would be clock spring coil,
other possible faults:
wheel speed sensor, earth wiring, airbag/s, BCM..
Best option is to get it diagnosed and then DIY.
my air bag light came on at 130 000k's and holden told me that they all will do it normally around 150 000. they replaced a air bag sensor in the steering coloum and bam problem solved. it cost $82 for tech 2 and $88 for the sensor.
I see, i have had the problem diagnosed by my mechanic already using his scanning tool (solaris - Works with most cars rather than only holdens and costs 2x as much) and the fault code that come up was SRS open circut :S so would that incline me to believe that its a clock spring fault? either way i'm trying to decide whether or not its worth getting fixed or not. What do you recon?
Clock springs can be picked up cheaply on ebay every now and then, so if you are not in a hurry to fix it keep checking ebay. Clocks prings are easy enough to replace yourself.
