    Default Idler Pulley Q

Car broke down last night, idler pulley seized and destroyed the belt (the one to the right of the water pump pulley).

I pulled off the pulley and am about to get a new one, but I'm wondering, what does it actually do? It doesn't drive anything and it isn't adjustable in any way. Is it just there to guide the belt or am I missing something crucial?

Is there any tricks to putting a belt on the car beyond just threading it around the correct way and tightening the tensioner?

It just there to guide the belt around. I haven't had a V6 in a while but I seem to recall sliding it on to the water pump pulley last.

It's easiest to put it on the waterpump last. The tensioner is self adjusting
