My old mans Vx V6 has started to cough when cruising along the highway, it seems fine if you accelerate hardish but tends to die in the ass at low throttle. When on cruise it starts tugging and jerking, probably the poor old comp trying to compensate and nothing happens then everything then nothing agian. I plugged it into the computer at tafe to check all the O2 sensors and TPS etc plus found at how much you can actually operate with the computer, wipers, gauges, turn all indicator lights on etc pretty much everything can be tested! Around town you cant fault it only when cruising. But after i had it idling for about 15 mins at tafe while i played on the computer it developed a mild miss at idle, i turned it off to unplug the computer then it wouldn't start properly, cranked then half started then died, then after 5 seconds of cranking it coughed to life missing and carrying on until i gave it a rev then went back to its normal old self, Didnt blow any smoke. But i couldnt get it to do anything driving around town. It has done 140 000 big ones and has never had anything major done to it, i have just always serviced it. It has had the spark plugs replaced within 10 000km ago.
I am leaning towards a carboned up throttle body or dodgy ignition leads. Planning to check the spark plugs, replace the leads and clean out the throttle body and maybe run injector cleaner through it and see what it does. Havent touched it yet. Any ideas? or suggestions?
sounds electrical to me. possibly the leads breaking down under load/heat.
I've had this happen in my VT.
Given you've played with the plugs recently I'd first be checking that the leads are actually pushed all the way on![]()
sounds like fuel filter could be blocked
