    Default VT won't start

    Hi all,

    What a sh*tty day!

I've been getting things done on my car to have a blue slip approved. So last night I had to put in a new power steering rack and this morning I took it over o Beaurepaires to get 2 new fronts and an alignment. The car died at Beaurepaires. I got NRMA over there and he seemed to think it was the fuel pump (which was replaced only 18months ago). So I went and grabbed one for $145 at Autopro then got a tow back to mine. Took 2hours to put in but all went sweet. Took it off the lift....still doesn't start...

Is there another problem you guys can think of that typically seems like a fuel pump issue. Also checked the fuses and relay and they seem to be fine.

    What do ya reckon??

Rang the NRMA guy up and he seems to think it would be the Crank Angle Sensor. Will chase one up tomorrow but I'm betting that is cheaper than a fuel pump.... Bugger. Well I have a spare now...

yeah iv had 2 different VS's do crank angle sensors.. think they are around $80 or $90 but it was quite a few yrs back. The other thing it could be is your battery terminals etc though im sure you have probably already checked that side of things out

error codes first and foremost, and even then dont trust them 100% i have seen the error code for crank angle sensor come up when the DFI unit has packed it in, I busted me ass to replace that sensor, reset computer and the same error came straight back and car still didnt start, unscrewed DFI module, cleaned terminals, screwed it back on car started, reset computer, never seen the error again.

lol, so you check the DFI, could be anything, but easy fix if thats it.

Don't take this the wrong way but in my case
NRMA don't even know what there doing!!!!!!!!!
My old vr Couldn't start so a rang up road service they done there tests..They say the starter motor needs changing...So the nrma auto elec came and changed it.....Still car wouldn't start......So i got it towed to a auto elc.......They found the problem straight away...It ended up being the battery terminals.....So changed the terminals all good.....

    **UPDATE**

Still no start. Engine is turning over. I replaced the CAS today and also checked for error codes. Kept coming up 12 over and over ie. no errors registered. Checked the spark plugs. Checked the fuses. We even tried the spare key for the (wishful thinking)

I am seriously out of ideas....

Did you check for spark before you changed the CAS sensor?.
Check for spark if there is no spark its either the coils,DFI Module,CAS,Efi relay.

Didn't check the sparks before the CAS but they all seem to be sparking. What's the DFI module btw?

It sits under the coils it takes the signal from the CAS,Cam angel sensor, and triggers the coil.
How did you check for the spark? Did you use a spark tester. Did you check the Efi relay?
It also can be the PCM not sending signal out to the injectors.

You are not gonna believe this...

After all this ****ing around, while we were looking for the EFI relay earth we stumbled across an inconspicuous little red switch under thhe drivers side....Its a kill switch stops the fuel pump. WTF!!! Previous owner must have installed it.

I put in a fuel pump and a CAS and it turns out it was a kill switch all along that must hhave been bumped. I can't believe it.

Least the car works I guess

But the moral of the story is to not just replace parts but to check electrical stuff where you can? like the fuel pump getting a power signal?
