Hey All,
I bought a VX Executive Series 2 a fortnight ago from a dealer, has been running beaut since then.
Today I get up to do some groceries and it starts fine, get about 1KM down the road and it basically turned itself off. Lost power stearing, wasn't revving etc.
From there it wouldn't start, so I got a mate to tow me back home, and we went to get some fuel to see if that could be the issue (as I havn't run it to near empty yet ... the dash still said 100KM DTE so i would assume I should be right there). However putting another 5L of fuel in it has made zero change.
We've changed the Fuel Relay with another identical one and no change, checked all the obvious connections but still no luck.
FYI I know next to nothing about cars, my mate does but not so much these electronic ones.
Any ideas on what could be causing this other than what I've mentioned we've checked?
Cheers,
Scott.
I am not a wizz on the Commodore but I had an EA falcon with the same symptoms. Turned out that the previous owner had never replaced the fuel filter and it had become blocked. put a new one in, it started first go. Not guarantee that's your problem but something to look at.
Well, if that's the case the dealership can handle that tommorow. Just wondering if there was anything else I could check today that might resolve the problem so I can go to work >_< thanks for the info th
to add more info, it does try to start. almost feels as if it has started, but then it just turns off.
My friend had the exact same problem with his VT, it was to do with the security in the car and the Key. Set him back around $800 nothing you can do to fix it really sorry mate..
I had the exact same issue with my VX berlina, Try putting in 10 to 20 more litres of fuel then give it a shot. Mine ran fine after I filled the tank halfway. I don't know why it does it but give it a shot.
You should have warranty buying from a dealer.
Don't spend a cent on it.
Ring the dealer and make it their problem
+1 on putting some more fuel in.
The VX fuel sender is a know and common fault that occurs.
Had the exact same thing happen to me in when I had the VX, fuel guage showing 1/4 tank and the thing just shut down while i was driving.

I put 5L of fuel in and nothing, so I called an RACV guy to come out and he said the sweet spot for these was about 13-15L to get them going again when they run dry, he put the fuel in, took a few goes but she started.
If this is the case, take it back to the dealer and get him to replace the fuel sender under warranty. The unit is quite pricey as the pump and sender are one unit so make sure he gets it replaced and not just a recalibration.
I managed to just get mine re-calibrated @ Holden, cost me abour 25 bucks I think.
But yeah, good luck and 15L is the sweet spot.
Cheers.
