Put it in your parents name and list you as a driver?

you could always go 3 rd party, fire and theft, although it wouldn't cover your car if an accident is your fault

    Eat yer hearts out!!.
My Commy fully comprehensive ,agreed value yearly insurance costs me $312. (Royal Automobile Association)..and I get to choose who does any repairs in the case of damage.
BUT, thats with a voluntary excess of $500 smackers! (less excess =a bit higher premium)
AND an additional excess of $600 for drivers under 21 and $700 additional excess for drivers under 21 and with less than 3 years driving experiance. $500 for drivers 21-24.

I have nominated drivers listed on my policy who fall in to the above catagorys, and they know the consequences of any crashes they may have!..but so far, I am laughin'.

Im with AAMI, got the insurance in my name (so i can work up the ratings) and it was a bit over $1,800 full comp for my VT berlina. but its not so bad if one of your parents are insured with aami, my dad has house insurance with them, so my car insurance was discounted to $1,500 and i started on a rating 5 rather than 6 and then the excess is something ridiculous because of my age
even the 1800 was cheaper than anywhere else i looked, and then you have alot of places who wont insure you if you;re under 25. so not a great deal to choose from thats reasonably priced.

Another thing to consider is, if you can go 3 years without an accident, your better off jsut going third party. VT calais is worth like 5-6k, 3 years of insurance is greater than cost of the car!
Your better off paying the 300-400 third party, then if u need to repair your car, do it on your own, or just buy a new car and sell yours for scrap.

also depends where you live, they say victorian drivers are the worst and insurance companys agree, i used to live in vic, car cost 2k to insure, moved to SA it dropped to 1100 thats on p plates, if you want good insurance, try looking at aus post, they do car insurance now and so far is best option/cheaper then everyone else

Yeah but if you ever need to claim with them they will probably lose your car in delivery.

To insure my ZX6R for $6000 NRMA want $2,480/year. And NRMA are the only ones who will even offer me a policy.

I wouldnt even bother insuring a VT, as was said above. In 3-4 years time you will have paid for a whole new car. You'd be better off saving $2k a year for 3-4 years, and then you'll have money to buy prob a VY or VZ by that time! lol

these prices are almost unbelievable!!.....do you all mean to tell me, that these refugee types driving around in smoky bombs, all white knuckled, 'P's in the window, have paid one to two $K for insurance?..FFFFF..ar out, if one of them runs in to you, your 1-2 grand insurance won't seem too bad!! when you ask for THEIR insurance company's name.
