    Default auto headlamps?

probably a very stupid question or idea... but i (along with many people that dont have it) would like auto headlamps in my VT S pack

i know that some (or all??) VT calais' had the auto headlamp feature and was curious to know what kind of work it would take to put it in the S pack?

    any ideas would be appreciated,

    cheers

Are you talking about the ones that come on automatically when it gets dark ? Auto barn or super cheap sell the kit for about $25

For the genuine option, you'd be looking at the switch itself, the sun sensor (middle of the front dash, may be there already), and possibly the BCM and wiring loom out of a model which supports it.

hey there yeah basically you have to change to a lux level bcm and you will need the wiring loom out of a calais ,loom not expensive just a very time consuming process from what i have gathered dash out to change your whole loom if your not into taking dash out aftermarket one is your best option ,i am also looking into doing it to my vt super 6 i have done eletcric windows i am now in the process of looking at doing climate control conversion and was guna try and rig the auto lights on and off function but i have to wait until i can take the car off the road so if you wana wait and see how i go i will do a write up on it as i am going to try and use the factory sunlight sensor and make my own loom with relays to do the job hopefully in the next month will have it done ,while im at it does anybody know if the sunlight sensor is in the dash with the ir sensor for remotes and its junt not wired up or it's not there at all no big deal i have a few lying around that i can use . will keep yous updated with my progress . i will be doing climate control conversion installs and window conversion once i have done myn just need to make shaugh it can be done to a standard loom.

Hi guys just been looking my diagrams i have ,i have a question for anyone that has auto lights on ,now with this function does the auto light function still work if the headlight switch is turn off or does it only work when the headlight switch is turned on just need to know so when i make a loom up so i know where i am guna wire it in before switch or after switch anybody know drop us a line as i will probably start making up kits for auto lights aswell with the factory sunlight sensor so it all looks factory.

im abit confused as to what ur asking...in my car i have the switch that has off, parkers, lowbeam headlights, auto...when it's on auto..when its dark enough the lights automatically turn themselves on to low beam...when the switch is on the lowbeam headlights setting, it stays on regardless, same with parkers..untill you switch it to the off position...at night, when they are on auto and you lock the car, the lights will turn off after a certain amount of time...is this answering ur question?

    Yer i agree with 2005vzute,

    The questions quite vague.
Ive gota auto lights aswell, and as mentioned above when the switch is on the auto position when its dark lights turn in, when its bright lights turn off.. and also as mentioned above when car is locked the lights will turn off, when its unlocked with remote and it is dark the lights will turn on. There is no such option to have headlights switched on and auto at the same time. Switch has either have to be turned to off, parkers, headlights, auto and in my case i pull the switch towards me to turn on the fog lights.

This is how the factory system works, i think your after somebody who has an aftermarket system they wired up themselves.

    Cheers

that would be awesome if you let me know how you did it - im on my learners and the car can be off the road until december this year, so having the dash out doesnt worry me. the vt calais switches have a (as said above) 'off', 'parkers', 'headlights' and 'auto' and when its put on auto, the lights come on when its dark by themselves.
id like my car to have as little aftermarket things in it as possible (my pioneer stereo is enough aftermarket stuff i think) so not having an aftermarket headlight system would be good. let me know how you go with that mate!

so do you have to have a seperate switch than the normal headlamps and keep the normal headlight switch to 'off'?

Actually its not a switch ,its like a volume control to adjust the light sensitivity to activate the lights .

hey there give me the weekend as im doing a climate control conversion so i will test the sensor to see how it works and see if i get voltage when it is activated ,im guessing that it just a light sensor that completes the circuit when it gets dark and tells the bcm relay to switch on light so if i can get some voltages out of it when it goes dark to light might be able to swap your standard one with the sunlight sensor version and just make your own patch loom and wiring it in to the headlight wiring i cant see why it wont work ,but if its like the climate control well we might have a problem, but if you do get yours out before i do just check the sensor up near the window for me and see if they are built in with the ir sensor or it might just be the ir sensor on its own.

also with your noise when does it make it when driving or turning into driveway etc let me know might be able to point you the right direction.

Just a quick note, I have a Series 1 VX Berlina with climate (sun sensor), variable dimmer switch for dash and programable headlight delay timer. I purchased a VX Calais headlight switch with the auto switch, plugged it in and turned it to auto.......nothing happens in light or dark - the headlight remain off. My next move is to contact the dealership and see if its an option that can be turned on in the bcm if it exists. I'll let you know in the next couple of weeks.

i think the wiring loom is different. your bcm will handle the auto headlights but you dont have the wiring to your headlight switch for auto

OK!! Here you go, After talking to 4Block you need the full wiring harness and pcm conversion and sensor.. if not present or present with no diOd. ok so as i love ebay and find and buy a lot off there.. here is what iv found in England!
AUTO ON/OFF CAR HEADLIGHT KIT,SWITCH LIGHTS ON AND OFF - eBay Head Lamps, Lights Lighting Accessories, Car Tuning Styling, Vehicle Parts Accessories. (end time 12-Jul-10 08:10:18 AEST)

This is all you need to mod your head lights to work with sensing.. Cheap and works.. Good luck.. i shall be doing this conversion also. might buy a calais switch and modifiy the wiring more to enable auto lights via switch.! Fun!! lol

didnt have a chance to get the dash out this weekend; any luck?
the noise is a metal-on-metal clunk whenever i go over bumps, turn into driveways and even a slight squeak when i turn the wheel a certain way
let me know if you have any ideas or had any progress mate, cheers
