    Default Tyre size affects handling?

Quick question. If the rear tyres of the VX are worn down, and the fronts still have the legal tread depth, will it affect the car's performance besides being dangerous to drive in the rain?

Since worn out tyres are smaller in diameter, wont the engine be rotating faster? (Whoops two questions)

You'll hardly notice a difference, besides why would you need to go so fast with bold tyres on the back.

Have you checked the rears carefully? The insides will almost always be worn worse than the outside which you can see, so you could be due for a blowout - that will seriously affect the handling. Worn out tyres are dangerous all the time.

Yea, i've checked the rears and they are wearing out evenly. its down to the 'wear out indicators' on the wheels. The fronts have remarkably a lot of rubber still eventhough I bought them all four tyres at the same time.
Is it safer to have a blown out tyre in the rear or in the front? I've had one happen to me but on a BMW rear. Managed to steer the problem out, luckily I wasnt driving fast

Blow outs are never safe...but if I had a choice I'd want it on the back so I could still steer.

my dad back in the day had a blow out in a cortina on the rear whilst taking a bend at 100km/h sent him backwards into a paddock and hit a tree, thankfully still alive but yeh as wheeldeal said, blow outs are never safe whether it be rear or front, although i have had 2 blow outs on my VT 1 with normal tires and second with RFT's and i must say the RFTs provided more control and i felt more confident with them

Thanks to all the good people at the JC universe. I reckon its not worth the gamble to use worn out tyres.

    Hey guys,

whilst we are on the subject, thought I would half hi jack and ask, which tyres? About due myself, and have read good things about toyo teos. currently have sava intensas and want to got something better for the rears in the wet. Does anyone on here run the toyos and what price should I expect for four tyres?

Also can any one recommend where to buy or alternatives, eg potenzas, or dunlop sp3000s?

Just a 'foot note' here, if the tyres had been rotated at the correct intervals during their life time, they would now be all worn down to about the same degree!

    Thanks y'all,
Plunk down some cash for Michelin's Pilot Sports 235/Z45R17 in the rears. smooth as silk, quiet as the graveyard, waiting til it rains to see how it'l handle in the wet

Just think that you are running slicks at the back. In the dry, heaps of grip but in the wet, sideways. Change them unless you want to kill yourself in the rain.

Thanks bulletman. I've changed the rears. so my VX is running Michelins rear and Federals FD2 front. The fronts still got lots of legal depth tread. Feels smooth and quiet, will change the fronts to Michelins when they wear out eventually

About 6 months ago I put a set of Toyo Teo Plus 235/45/17 on the VX SS, have not had any dramas with them, they seem to grip ok, the big thing I did notice was how quiet they ride compared to the Bridgestone B530's I took off. From memory they were around $170 each for the size I mentioned. Have only done about 8000km on them so far.
