Default Fuel gauge not working properly

    Hi

Was just after some opinions on my s2 vx... the fuel gauge is accurate until it gets under a 1/4 tank where it just doesn't know what to do, shows empty when i have plenty left and sometimes shows a 1/4 when there is hardly any fuel left... i have put up with it but being on apprentice wages its kinda hard.

    any opinions would be appreciated

    cheers

sorry forgot to mention... it only happens every now and then, so some sometimes the fuel gauge is spot on sometimes its not. which is quite a mystery

It could be a faulty (sticking) fuel gauge sender. I'm having the same problem at the moment and I've run out of petrol a few times now because of it. Unfortunately the fuel tank needs to be dropped and the pump and sender removed to check it out, so I haven't got around to it yet.

I found this on another site. Apparently ther was a recall on some commodores

The fuel gauge in a VX Commodore can give faulty readings that can tell the driver of the car that it's running out of fuel. The main problems would be the fuel gauge sender and VXs with VIN earlier than 849803 were affected.

One owner of a 2002 Berlina ran out of fuel with its trip computer showing 110 kilometres to empty and the fuel gauge indicated between quarter full and empty. Other owners had ran out of fuel when the fuel gauge read out a quarter full and are demanding repairs for the faulty fuel gauge.

any chance you can grab the link of where you found this info out?

Yeah, i tried to get holden to replace mine under the recall when I still had the VX, lets just say I ended up with a re-calibration instead.

    Cost $25.

    Good luck mate.

I am also keeping an eyes on this. I wonder if there is a time limit on the recall.

jesterarts.. did the re-calibration fix the problem??

i asked the warranty guy at my work and he reckons there is a time limit as its not a safety recall

so 8 years later would be too long.. still waiting for holden to call me back, will let you's know what they say

Yes, in my case it resolved the issue. I got the same story with mine, that the recall was for a limited time.

But yeah, fingers crossed a re-calibration sorts you out.
