    Default vx exhaust????

i have a vx s pac and it has those stock cast headers on it and 2 and a quarter inch exhaust (stock) and i have cut the rear resonator off. it makes my car sound better and go a little bit better, is there much point putting extractors and 2.5 inch exhaust on it or do you think i should just get a cat back exhaust? i plan on gettin 1.98 ratio roller rockers and 69mm throttle body later on. thanks.

Ecotec with a 2.5 catback and no resi sounds like a loud fart in a tin can.

When I still had my VX I put a 2.5 Redback on with the resi removed, about 3 weeks later I had them weld a fairly long hotdog in as it sounded so terrible.

Just to give you an idea, I had HM tuned headers, 2.5 catback with a 16inch (I think) hotdog and is sounded like this:

@25sec odd is probably the big you are interested in.

When I had the resi out, it sounded much more tinny.

Plus from the legal side, removing a muffler is illegal so that's something esle to consider.

Yeah, a resi is the rear muffler on the exhaust basically. The small ones are called hotdogs because they look like a hotdog (sorta).

Straight through and removing the resi are 2 different things.

Straight through is talking about the type of mufflers used, removing the resi is just having straight pipes on the rear.

As I said, doesn't sound even close to good with a rear muffler delete.

Mate, it's all about personal preference... the subject of if an exhaust sounds good is very subjective.

In the case of the ecotec engines, I personally think that having the rear muffler removed makes it sound like a curry fart on a sunday morning right before a AGB.

Others will say its awesome. Best bet, is to put on youtube and see what sounds good to you on there.

I personally liked my exhaust sound on my old car while alot of people thought it sounded crpa and ricey.
