sound like what i just had problems with on the weekend, if i've read ya post right.
my car would turn over for 3-5 sec's befor starting. like there was no fuel or it was flooded a bit,........... dose that sound like yours???

if so- i found out my injectors were leaking, so it was either partially flooded or low on fuel pressure.

if i turned it off and started it straight away it was fine, just if it had been sitting for a little bit it would take a while to start.

ya may just have low fuel pressure. mayb.

could try changing ya fuel filter if its been a while .
    get fuel pressure tested
pull vac hose off the fuel reg and see if its leaking out the port of the fuel reg. (not sure if it has to be running or ignition just swithed on so pump comes on and build pressure)

or if its easy enough on an ecotec, take off the fuel rail with injectors still attached and fuel lines, sit it upside down so injectors are pointing up, turn ignition on so pump comes on and fills the rails(switch ignition off and on a couple of times to make sure its chockers. DONT START IT) and see if the tips of the injectors fill up/or if any fuel leak's out..
thats how i found out mine were leaking anyways. swapped injectors and starts instantly again

yer my car wouldnt start, not only that but it would stall every time i turned right. It had a shit load of problems. Paid hundreds for a major service including the plugs being changed and what not and getting a crank angle sensor...and then iv had RACV come out when it wouldnt start. they said it was the alternator......I got an auto elec out and it turns out the whole time it was the battery. the god damn battery. even though the battery indicator was green, it was faulty....for the love of money, check you battery.
