has anyone attempted to fit 4wd tyres and fit lifted springs to a vt? looking to lift mine rather then lower it just for something different as vts arent worth much these days so going to have some fun with it.
Why waste your money & de-value your car more so? Swap your VT for a Toyota Corolla 4WD wagon.
Give it a go
I have only seen it done on a few kingswood's here in perth, not on any commodores yet
You can get Heavy Duty/Raised Springs, put V8 ones of them in the front as they are firmer again, will raise it a noticeable amount, but not enough for serious 4wding.
You can get some very mild 4wd tyres to fit, but nothing aggressive, personelly I would just got for a knobbley Road tyre.
I have the above on my ute and it will take mild 4wd tracks no worries, but dont kid yourself, I have been winched and tower out on so many occasions its not funny, never 4wd alone especially in a commy
Also, Sump gaurd is the best investement as Commy sumps are so low, if its an auto, well good luck with the trans sump.
Here are 4WD tyres on a VT ...

After some research can't get springs any higher then 25mm for the front but v8 spring are probably a good idea. Not planning on doing any serious 4wding just maybe some beach work and would be going with a mate who has a patrol. But mainly just want something different to every other lowered commodore out there. Is a 235-75-r15 doable only concern is that it may rub on the spring purch on the shock
I can't see it being roadworthy since most states have the rule regulating acceptable tyre sizes. Most 4WD tyres would have to big of a side-wall to be compliant.

Not sure how similar VT's are to earlier commodores but I am running 235 85 R16 on the back of a VN Ute with shocks designed for lifted safaris and have just boxed up rear diff arms to lift spring mounts. VTs are IRS rear thou arent they so maybe a bit different. Only needed to do a little bit of clearancing of guards to run. The biggest tyres you can fit on VN - VS front ends are 27, 7.5 R14 muds or equilivant. Will probably need to run 15" rims at least because I dont think standard holden 14" rims will fit over calipers on VP on cars, However we have found that 14" sunraisers have a different enough shape to the back of the rim that they will clear calipers on VP. I am running these on the front and if they were brand new would be rubbing on the spring mounts on front struts. For any sort of Offroad action you really have to do something about the crossmember below the radiator. I have seen many of these smashed on rocks and various other stuff. Easiest option we have tried so far is a lenght of 3" channel welded between the chassis rails below/around this crossmember.
