Hi all,
Im new here so yeh.
Anyway, every morning when I start the car, a noise that sounds like a bird (Canary) is coming from in the engine bay. Im thinking it is the water pump because every second week or so the temperature of the car shoots to 3/4, but doesnt overheat and its going through water like no other.
Second question: im running low on coolant in the car (probably why its going through so much water), but I heard that if you change the coolant, it can stuff the water pump. What tips and techniques are there for changing the coolant?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Andrew
firstly get a presure test....
As i had a leak but realy hard to see the leak......Presure test will show you if you have any leaks...but doesn't tell you if the internals of water pump is stuff...or doesn't tell you if radiator blocked
Then if you find leaks fix them....
Changing coolent...This is what i do....When cold take off the bottom radiator hose off...Put the garden hose in the filler neck.Until the water turns clear..Fill it up till the water is coming to the top of filler neck..Then start the car until termosat opens ...keep refilling it...Then put cap back on ...
go for a short drive....Then open up the bleeder screw untill u see water coming out....Then when cold refill it.....
And for the singing bird???
Try very carefully when engine is on put a long handle screw driver onto water pump then put it up to your ear.....Do you hear the bird singing???
Or could have something to do with your fanbelt
As for overheater..It could also be a blocked radiator
The temp gauge jumping to threequarters would be from having air trapped in the coolant. The squeeking could be a worn fan belt or one of your idler pulleys could be almost seized up. You really need to find where the coolant is leaking an fix that first. it is easier to find a leak after the engine has been warmed up and then turned off because it should build up pressure in the cooling system then so any leaks can be seen. Fill the cooling system completely before you warm up your engine to check for leaks. Common places for leaks are where the tanks join the radiator, the heater tap, water pump, end of any radiator or heater hose, the heater core, lower inlet manifold gasket or head gasket.
Cheeping bird sound like an idler pulley, or other pulley .

A. you have a stuffed fan belt
B. You most likely have a blown head gasket.
check the idler pulley mine does exactly the same![]()
