hey guys
i have this real bad shuddering under braking (steering wheel and gearstick)
ive had a balance and wheel alignment and still got the shaking
after reading a few threads ive decided to replace my rotors and pads assuming mine are warped and just old. theyre the factory ones and as far as i know they havent been replaced in a while
saw this on ebay: Commodore Disc Rotors VT VX VY VZ with Pads - Full Set - eBay Other, Brakes, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 12-Jul-10 17:04:35 AEST)
just wanting opinions on the quality/reliability of these
i dont want performance parts as im looking to sell in the next 6 months or so
cheers
I have never tried RDA rotors but anything would be better than the factory rotors. You can buy standard rotors for around 50 to 55 dollars each. If your old pads still have a bit left in them you can sand them flat and use them on your new rotors. Some of the cheap pads might only last six months if you use your brakes a lot.
could be your front bushes mate, i had the exact same problem
I have dealt with this problem a coupla times over the years. Any rotors are fine, but worth spending money on good pads. It's worthwhile IMHO replacing the pads any time you replace the rotors - even if there is life left in the old pads.
Most important - torque your wheel nuts correctly (ie alternately) and do not over tighten - also, do it by hand.
I have in the past, replaced rotors and pads, fixing the shudder, only to go in for new tyres 4mths later - and the shudder returns. It seems any time the wheels are fitted using a rattle gun the brake shudder returns.
To thread starter
RDA Rotors are fine for everyday use Prices from a local Sprints auto shop are around $60-$65 each so pretty good value
I just replaced my rotors aswell due to shuddering
a few hints/tips : ensure to handle the metal clips in the caliper with extreme care.( The ones that stop the pad from moving side to side) if these are bent or put back in lose you will have a "knocking" sound while braking . it is simply the pad "pulsating" from side to side
Also the shudder under brakes may also be your Radius Rod to Chassis ( "Castor Bushes" ).
here is a useful link to replace them. reasonably easy job to do.
Prices about $150 a pair, once again from Sprints auto
