Default VX Strut top (damper top support)

Im currently experiencing a problem with my left strut top (damper top support). I replaced both struts only a short while ago witch was an easy enough job, however I didnt replace strut tops on either side but did replace bearing that sit in strut top. Now the other day I noticed that the LHS damper shaft was fulling extended when I opened the bonnet & was suprised to see that the metal tube from the strut top had pushed right through....anyways I replaced it & another new bearing only to travel 100km's before it done it again!!. Am I doing something wrong....Is there something Im missing??? Im thinking the bonnet will have an extra feature should I not be able to fix it soon. Im pretty sure I put on all stuff that I pulled off

Im also after the best diff ratio for my VX 5.7lt auto. It currently has a 3.07 ratio witch changers to 4th at 230kph but cuts out at 250 kph witch is rediculous. Need to harness the power down lower....Anyone with Idea's

My strut top did the same thing it was nocking so i replaced them but in the process worked out that the metal sleeve had completely come apart form the rubber. In terms of it doing it again well it hasnt its all ok now maybe u got a dodgy one i suppose just take em back to where u got em from and show whoever it was that sold em to u..... With your diff gears most commonly would go in an auto a 3.7 set and maybe in manual go 3.9 they a good mix for street and a bit o race duties ....hope this helps

Yea mate thanks for the heads up on the diff ratio....I was looking towards the 3.73 just a little concerned about the revs Ill be doing on the highway.....currently its under 2000 but with the ratio change I dont want it to be doing 3000 or something silly

    well i went from 1800 ish - 2050rpm at 100kmh in my auto 6 that was standard 3.08 to a 3.46 ss lsd diff so i would guess about 2400 @ 100kmh for u....
i in all honesty would of liked now to go to 3.73 instead of the 3.46 to just get a little shorter but 3.46 is still good for me as i drive my car every day to work, shops and the ike, believe it or not though i now get better fuel economy an extra 0.4l per 100k just remember your speedo will be out mine now has a 10kmh difference so to actually do 100 i have my speedo
    att 110..... GL

Am I missing something or did this guy say he is doing 230kmh, in a car with a strut that is poking up through the bonnet?

Yea Feg....you missed something.....tried out the speed when I bought it (stupid!) I know.....but 3 yrs since then the strut cap has failed twice within 100k's of renewing it.

Thx 87LAG...I'll endevour to purchase a 3.73 & see how see goes!.... they are as Im sure you are aware a pretty fast car but hopefully the diff change will make it a quicker car rather then the speed so to speak

lol, i normally miss things. betcha be watching the bonnet when going over 200 from now on. I see in your sig, you are out Dalby way. there is some space out there to do it I suppose.

I don't get changing from to higher ratios, I get too much wheel spin in mine and it is just a standard super6. guess with traction control and slightly better tyres it makes s difference? But honestly if you try for a decent start of the lights you have to feather the throttle yeah?

I just had 3.73 put in, just over 2000RPM at 100KMH, fuel economy is a bit worse (probably its hard to resist flooring it now).

If you have good tires i keep pretty good traction off the line (Bridgestone) even in the wet can floor it mostly except for 1-2nd gear change.

Didn't realise the strut tops and the bearings were seperable.
Maybe try a nolathane set, I have some and they're pretty tough.

Be careful you don't break the sound barrier, the Air Force might scramble some jets to your location.
