    Question Cracked Middle Muffler

    Hi,
Recently had a service and was told that my middle muffler is cracked. I'm unsure how much this is to repair but I have a custom exhaust that came with the car when i bought it second hand (not sure of it's make etc), will that affect the cost of fixing it?

And what exacly is the problem with it being cracked, I mean in terms of will it lead to other things breaking, or does it affect performance or efficiency? Just wondering if it's even worth getting fixed.

    -Thanks

The way a muffler is made is that the internal pipe is an extension of the external one. It is welded in such a way that the pipe carries on all or part way into the muffler. When this pipe on the inside deteriorates and breaks, there is no internal support for the weight of the muffler and the continual bouncing up and down cracks the skin of the muffler right at the weld. You can have it welded, but it will crack again. Depending on the type of exhaust the price will vary.

Sometimes it is cheaper to replace the whole thing than trying to mix and match brands when it comes to sports systems.

I can do a complete cat back 2 1/2" sports exhaust for $215 shipped without a rear resonator or $255 with the rear resonator. Two bolts, 4 rubber hangers and two clamps to fit.

It is a Manta, very similar to Redback but this one is their own design.
