Hi,
I have a 2000 VT Commodore that just randomly dies and sometimes won't start.
On average it seems like every two days the car dies while driving. There is no noise or any warning. It is as if some one turned off the key. The engine light comes on. The car then immediately starts up again but sometimes the engine light stays on. Some times when you go to take off at the lights it will misfire a bit but then recover and keep going.
About every two weeks the car won't start. It always starts when leaving home but when you leave from where ever you have driven too, sometimes you're there 30 minutes other times 3 hours, it won't start. Sometimes if you try for a while it will start after about 20 minutes. Most times the car has to be jumped. Then it drives home fine.
The car has had its fuel pump, fuel filter and computer replaced. I have gone around the car checking all grounds. I cannot see any obvious wiring faults and most of the time the car functions as though the starter and alternator is fine.
From here I can only think to start replacing parts but I thought I would get your opinions on what might cause these sort of issues.
Cheers
Well i don't know anything about anything! so i wont be much help :} uhh..did you check the battery also?
The battery is new, well was new, the being jumped all the time is making it age quickly.
day mate,
My VT did this very same ting a while ago, it ended up being the fuel pump in the tank, I thought maybe the body module as well, so replaced the module.. but in the end fuel pump.
try your crank angle sensor my car did the same thing
Im with lestat seem slike the crank angle might be overheating and wont function poperly until it cools down next time it does it pour some cold water on it when it does and see what happens. i had a mate who car did this so he just poured cold water on it and it would restart until he fixed it.
Def sounds like the crank angle sensor. Cold water will help it, but it will tend to make the problem hapen more often. It is an easy fix and should only set you back about $110 (and that is from Holden, supplied and fitted)
