Get the v8 and then get it tuned by a reputable workshop. Then it will be as good if not better on fuel than a v6 (driven sensibly of course)..

Nick where do you get your tuning done! Coz Im gonna take my SS there! LOL
Mate, if fuel cost is even the slighest concern for you, dont bother with a V8. They use more. Its just a fact
If you want performance, sound, thrill of the drive, then V8 hands down

a v8 uses more fuel,hmmm.....yeah like maybe on average of 1 or 2 litres per 100kms. now THATS a fact

    City driving statistics:
    V6 Auto- 12.0 ltr per 100 km
    V6 Man-11.0 ltr per 100 km
    V6 Supercharged auto-13.5 ltr per 100 km
    5.0 V8 Auto-15.0 ltr per 100 km
    5.0 V8 Man-14.0 ltr per 100 km
    5.7 V8 Auto-13.0 ltr per 100 km
    5.7 V8 Man 13.0 ltr per 100 km
    Highway Driving Statistics:
    V6 Auto-7.2 ltr per 100 km
    V6 Man-7.2 ltr per 100 km
V6 Supercharged Auto- 7.8 ltr per 100 km
    5.0 V8 Auto- 9.0 ltr per 100 km
    5.0 V8 Man- 9.0 ltr per 100 km
    5.7 V8 Auto- 8.5 ltr per 100 km
    5.7 V8 Man- 7.4 ltr per 100 km
these are specs provided by holden to their service department. after looking around all specs are basically the same. the difference between a V6 Auto & a 5.7 V8 Auto is basically a litre of petrol,a measly $1.20. i dunno about anyone else but i know i would rather be driving the V8 for an extra $1.20,lol
obviously though you have to take into consideration the condition of the vehicles mechanical components, your tyres condition etc but even then there still realistically isnt much difference between a V6 & V8.

I never said by what amount. Just that a V8 will use more. Which your posted stats have shown. I was merely pointing out that IF petrol consumption is a PRIORITY of his, then get a V6. If he's happy to pay a few more dollars in petrol to own a V8 and have the performance etc that come with it, then get the V8!
I used to own a 3.8 ecotec VU S, and I now have a VT 5.0 SS, and my petrol bill is heaps higher then it used to be. I dont care coz Id rather own a V8 still. Each to ther own though.
And regardless of what statistics people want to pull up, in my personal experience, my VT SS uses a shitload more then 1 or 2 litres/100kms then my VU around town.

wasnt having a dig at ya dude. heard so many times the V8 a gas guzzler but they arent as bad as people think. especially the next generation 5.7 ls1. as i said at the end you have to take into consideration the vehicles condition, mechanically, tyres, how much of a lead foot a person is etc. all these sort of factors affect a vehicles fuel economy. before i had the first vt ls1 i had a standard v6 version,it only had one owner since new & was well looked after with low km's. i would spend 40 bucks on petrol using the v6. when i got the ls1 vt,i did the same milage, travelled the same route etc & would only spend 45 bucks at the most. since using my vx ss manual my fuel bills gone back down to 40 bucks. go figure

the only drama would be finding one in that combination. you may find one in leather with no sunroof or sunroof & no leather. not many vt-vx came out with sunroofs as they were a dealer type option(HBD) & it was up to the buyer of the vehicle when new it they wanted one or not. your best bet would be to find one with a sunroof first then if it doesnt have leather interior just go to a wreckers or search ebay for one that you want. it would work out cheaper to replace your interior than to have a sunroof fitted. average price for sunroof fitting as per factory standard $1200. average price of replacement interior $500

I own a VX SS manual and it is great car drive, the power is there when i want it it very responsive, car drives great aswell, i live on what i believe are some of the worst roads in qld if any of you are from central qld you will know what i mean. Besides all this i am averaging anywhere between 650 - 750 k to a tank. I had a VS V6 5 speed previous to this and i was averaging 500 - 600 k to a tank. Go figure.

ive had a few cars in my time, a few of them have been a vt v6 berlina, vt ss 5.0, wh statesman s/c v6 and currently a vt ss ls1 and the ls1 craps all over all of them in fuel especially the sc v6 that was shocking, i get atleast 450ks out of a tank in my ls1, wouldnt even get near that in ANY of my other cars

so yea dont stress about fuel, if your looking for luxury go for the vx calais ls1, there nice cars

    cheers
