Hello people.
What is the easy and cheapest way to fix a rmos leak.?
Is there a really good product on the market that may help.?
I have been quoted $1100 to $1500 to fix.The seal costs $66.00 unreal, must be a lot of labour to fix.
THANKS ROD...
I have done this twice so far and yes it's quite a fair bit of labour lol. Gotta pull box out so drops exhaust, tailshaft, then pull clutch and flywheel off just to get to the rear main plate. I took it off and changed the gasket on the rear main plate aswell while I was at it. When u fit it back on with the new rear main seal, it's gotta be spot on centre so that the seal doesn't leak. U gotta put in all ur bolts finger tight then use the two lower bolts that go through ur sump to adjust it up and down to get it central. (I also put a run of high temp silicone on the rear main plate gasket to be sure.) make sure not to tighten the bottom sump bolts too much as they do snap... Good luck!

its easier to pull the engine out to do a rear main seal on those.
just do it your self mate. follow the advice given to pull it out, take your time & save yourself some bucks. even at 66 bucks for the seal is expensive, last one i got was only 25 bucks. but i went to a engineering suppliers that sold bearings & seals with the old seal in hand. asked for one like it & got it with no dramas.
Yer I dunno about pullin the motor out but? Coz either way u still gotta disconnect the gearbox so might aswell leave motor in there... Everyone does things differently but I guess. If u do pull motor out, id change sump gasket while ur at it. To change my sump gasket, had to drop k-frame... Bit of f*ckn around. Just make sure care is nice and high, makes life a lot easier!

forget about the bit with ripping the engine out to change your rear seal, yes it can be easier doing it that way sometimes but dont worry about it.
just loosen all your trans bolts, jack the back of your engine up a little then with a good size chunk of wood going between your strut towers tie/chain your engine up to the hunk of wood. then jack your car up,put it on a couple of car ramps, disconnect your tailshaft(dont pull the yoke out of the back of your gearbox other wise you'll have oil pi**ing out everywhere),place your jack under the gearbox & jack it up,undo all your gearbox bolts & what ever else is in the way(if auto undo torque convertor bolts before removing gear box bolts),undo your trans mount & remove it. after that your trans should drop with a bit of persuasion. sound like a pain in the bum but for me i would rather have a small pain in my bum than a large pain in my walletlol
WHATEVER you do make sure you change the housing plate that the rear main sits in. Cost me about $150 for the seal/housing and gasket and i done it myself
Thanks for all your advice boys, maybe next week i might have ago.
Any more tricks would be great, just let me know.
I was told i had to replace all the bolts,is that true
yeap, its something to do with the bolts being a one use item. tension bolts or some name like that. personally i havent bothered before & some mechanic shops i have worked in dont worry about it either unless the customer requests it. the only workshop i was in that did change them & every other one use bolt if it was removed specialzed in bmws, ferraris, porsches etc so i suppose its expected with that type of vehicle. gets expensive though,i remember once i had to go & get some subframe bolts for a mercedes,x6 bolts at $250 a pop, damn expensive,lol![]()
