3 main things i would be looking at..

    1. is your power steering leaking?
    2. are the alternators being rebuilt properly?
    3. check the battery regulator

Geez you 2 are up early ^^^

Have you put a multi meter across the treminals? I assume you have being your on you 4th alt, by memory it should be between 13.2-13.7 Volts.
Also check the earthing of battery and alt, and are you belts in good shape.

I bought a vt ss that had 3 alternators replaced in 2 years (before i bought it) each one was damaged by leaky power steering rack (constant topping up of reservoir and spillage ending up on the alternator ) change seals on pipes in the rack cleaned up all oil mess in the engine bay and all is good

How does leaking powersteering affect it? I believe you but am curious to know, the windings are enamel copper wire

ah yes, but the terminals aren't, and neither are the brushes. It's an inherent design fault, low alternator too close to the leak prone steering racks.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
