When I start the car the key doesnt return and I have to turnit back myself or the starter keeps engaging
Is there a spring or something that can be replaced
I had the same problem with my VX and the auto elec charged me $80 to fixit
This time I would like to have a go my self and save the $$$s
seem like a common problem
Any ideas
The spring part is in the ignition switch so you will need to replace the switch.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Yes replace the ignition before it goes from not returning to doing nothing cause the end of it has crapped itself, its an easy fix but can be costly if it means you cant get to work till you fix it.
take off the shroud around steering wheel.
put key in ignition
put allan key in small hole at top of ignition
turn key and pull outwards
you should have the ignition assembly in your hand attached to your key.
take it into a locksmith and get him to replace it, $60 and 15 mins later you have a new one in hand
goto car, inspect inside of ignition for any loose parts (important)
remove them if needed (if you cant get it out that side you need to get your allan key onto the other side and remove the switch part of the assembly)
once all is free of broken parts etc put it back in and it should lock into place, allan key may be needed on the top again.
enjoy your new ignition
tis common for the end of the ignition assembly to snap and leave your key useless. you may have just had a break far enough in to upset things without disabling your car
