hi all, lowered my vt on ssl front and back and i regret it!! the ride is bumpy as **** and it barely takes in a dip/bump in the road. i am gonna put the stock springs back in as its not worth having the king springs in as its pointless - you feel every bump in the road..so my questions are:
- what soft shocks are there for the VT?
- if i keep the SSL what shocks are there to soften the ride up? or is there no option?
i think stock springs are the go because its too bumpy and i only have 18" senators on mine, i dont wanna imagine what it'd be like with 20's later...
is there any shock and strut combo that i could look into for keeping a soft ride?
cheers...
thats how the ride champ, i bet it looks tuff though ay lol.
it looks great sitting on my 18" senators but the ride quality is not worth it....any options for soft shocks to suit SSL or nuh? what about statesman shocks/springs? im planning on 20's soon - and the amount the car was lowered i really dont think 20's will fit because the 18's are almost tucked!!!
should i be looking a SL or lows to suit 20's? maybe with softer shocks and struts?
thoughts?
put pump up shockers n the rear
get adjustable coilovers. you can adjust height and damper (soften or harden the ride). solves both your problems. 2200 installed from pedders. if you dont have the cash they have a interest free ezi pay system. thats exactly what im doing this sat.
I had a small drive with SSL rear springs and kyb short shocks. ride was pretty good considering. But, ended up going SL. the ride is better with a good clearance.
don't forget the camber/toe kit can raise the ride slightly, and give the suspension more freedom to move. also less stress on components.

well mine sits nice and low almost tucking the rims but with about 20mm of tyre to gaurd clearence...though the shocks are factory thus need replacement... i think i'll be looking to swap my kings springs for super lows or lows its dropped my car about 3inches i'd prefer 1 to 2inches of drop to suit bigger rims in the future so if anyone wants to swap for lower king springs PM me lolHow would i go if i put SL's all round on my VT, also is this a good/bad idea?? Guy that did my suspension had 20" on SSL and SL. suspension was nice he said. but the low profile tyres killed it.

well i just found out you pay a set up account fee. between 35 and 80 (according to the site) and every payment costs you an extra $2.50.lol its not sounding to good anymore. they dont tell you that shit when you go into the store. So the $2.50 explains why they want you to pay every fortnight for 10 months. i plan on paying it back in a couple months. so i dont mind.
interest free forever. its not just a period of interest free
If you're unhappy with the ride on SSL's, i probably wouldn't waste money on 20's...
friend of mine has airbags on the back its actually not that expensive
tho mines on ssl with fe2 suspension i seruiosly think my ride is great.
ofc when u hit a pothole etc ur gonna cop it tho really depends where your driving
Ay bro just thought id let u know about this if u decide to keep them springs in it might save ur life i fitted SSL to my VT just the springs nuthing else. anyway i was on the Great western highway in sydny NSW when i hit a fairly decent bump at 90ks. all of a suden the back of my car droped hard to the ground and i smashed it on a pole turns out the rear springs simply just fell out. the springs are to short for standard shocks after losing my first vt i bought another one and did research on shocks i ended up finding a brand called Boge that have a lowerd shock range called BOGE turbo invest in them man they are verry comfterble and let my heart break be a lesson to anyone who thinks its just cool to cut ya springs to low or fit springs to low.
Mines on SL's all round and it's driving fine to my liking, love it being low and i can juuuuust make it over bumps, the odd fkn huge bump scrapes slightly.
ive gotten air driving through a set of lights a few days ago hahah...... theres one of those down up down bumps on the other side of the lights and i fleww![]()

won't Statesman shocks and springs soften the ride? Don't know about lowering though, I prefer full suspension travel.
yeah mate feel for ya, i just Bought a vx Calais 5.7 of a **** head who chopped the rears springs on a beautiful low km car then added 20"rims, im on pedders touring springs with strut brace, Replaced Vx calais rims 16inch new bear plates but un sure of what type of shock is the best(on a budget) car has OTR MAF and exhaust.
thanks
Softer shocks will make the ride WORSE!!! You need a shock that's capable of controlling the spring, not one that's going to let it oscillate of it's own accord. If you want to go stupidly low, and have any hope of maintaining a decent ride quality, go Bilstein.

id hate to think!. my vt rided like shit with sl's let alone ssl's!
i did a lot of research before upgrading
FE2 already fitted to my vx with 15" and after much research i decided on 17" wheels and tyres,at times i still still think it's a little too harsh
All these people sayin there cars ride like crap with lowered springs are yous putting shorter shocks in aswell ??
Jeeeezzz sup with this thread... nobody replacing their shocks with short stroke shocks.....
You can only get away without replacing them if you go to an L spring. Anything SL and lower NEEDS short shocks otherwise the springs wont be trapped, and hence they fall out when hitting a bump like the muppet up there ^
Bloody dangerous, especially if there's a car following behind, spring can end up through the windscreen and kill someone.
And cutting IRS springs? WTF the top coil is designed to center itself! Even cutting one coil off is dangerous, it will make it slop all over the place!
