hey guy im thinking of trading in my vr on a vx ss..This will happen in about a months time and i am wndering the pros and cons of a vx ss.. What are your opions on them. any advice would be great thaks
Do iiiiiiiit!
Had mine from new and it has been brilliant, great car to travel in especially on the highway, effortless cruiser.
the only thing i dont like about my ss is that is doesnt hav an L98 in it . go for it![]()
my partner like the idea i wouldnt mind a vy calais in manual v8 but an ss will greatly please my v8 thirst for now
great car, just as nice as the vt version. problem is with an ss is the insurance is through the roof for them. try having a look around for just a standard with all you want in it,5.7,manual or auto etc.if it doesnt have the interior you want just change it, it will cost you half the insurance just because the badges dont say ss & sometimes they will be cheaper. i dont think calais came out with manual,i could be wrong though but i thought all calais were autos.
check my classified cars for sale post for an example of what you can get in a standard version with just as much grunt,if not more than an ss.
Agreed that you pay heaps more on insurance for the privilege of having a couple a badges. Still, I wouldn't say no to one. It is a good idea to go a Berlina/Calais with the GEN 3 as well. If you wanted to know all the quotes I have got for my 5.7L wagon has been around $650 full comprehensive.
do it man. i have had mine for 7 years and it has never broken down once. they are the best looking commodore apart from the vk of corse. i pay around a grand for full insurance unlimted mods on rating 2 so yea if your over 25 and rating 1 price should be well under a grand. you wont look back

i had a VS for 3months (written off by idiot asian going through a red light) and then bought a VT S-Pack and the interior is nicer, handling is nicer and all and all, has a much higher class look than the 'bomb' status of a vr or vs lol
A few years back I was also looking for a VX SS to buy. I found most of them had a fairly hard life (not all just the ones that were for sale). Surprising how many were either high km’s and thrashed, or had kids bike scratches down the sides and little paint chips all over them; also scratches to the interior. I ended up with a Berlina with the GENIII which had half the km's (had <50,000km) and in much better condition for the same price. Although the Berlina does not have a LSD standard; it does offer many other options like the 3 window dash/cruise/climate control/trim levels/etc. If you wanted to later you could always add a body kit. The cheaper insurance is also a bonus. In the VX the SS had the same engine as the Berlina. But if you can get a decent SS go for it, you won't look back. Then get all the Stage I mods.

Honestly, I'd say go the Berlina or Calais with the 5.7. They were mostly purchased new by older couples and used as tow vehicles. If it's being sold by a 4WD mob even better because they've likely traded it in from those people.
Just drive the auto and see how you like it, you may be pleasantly surprised. As said you can always fit a manual.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
