i bought a vt commy executive sedan on wednesday last week. when i got it to my auntys i filled it up to full. the gauge worked fine then within 20m's the fuel light came on the it dropped to empty when i stopped at the lights. the next day i took it to the mechanics and they said there was an error code coming from the computer and they reset it and sent me on my way with the diagnosis the sender unit needs to be replaced. i drove it home from sydney (890kms) with the gauge working (did not replace the sender as i could not afford it) the light came on after i filled it up to full again but then went away and stayed at full. i ignored it. the car was working great and giving me much better fuel economy then my previous xr6t which i was wrapped about.
today i had an issue at home and had to be rushed to hospital. i jumped in my car, and started it. it started okay but within a few seconds just died on me. it felt like i had run out of fuel but with 3/4 of a tank i refused to believe it. i tried again. it didnt start, and third time wasnt lucky either.
the cars battery is fine and not flat, the fuel pump makes its normal sound and the car will start ticking over. it sounds like it wants to start but something just isnt right. we filled the car up thinking somehow it could have leaked or drained out, did not fix the issue. i tried using my spare key thinking the battery in the key may have been flat and wasnt turning the immobiliser off, still no go. we checked the fuses and relays on everything (ignotion, fuel pump, etc) and still no go. ive called our local mechanic and they wont even look at it and advised me to put it on a car trailer and take it to the next town (150kms away) which is not really a doable task for me at the moment.
i took out the fuel filter, its dirty as and throwing out nothing but black fuel and dirt. replaced the filter, no fix. any ideas?
also, the boyfriend put the dead lock on the car (2 turns to the left) and then tried unlocking it not knowing the central locking doesnt work on the drivers door. any way i can over ride it as trying to unlock with the car does nothing
the two problems (fuel and no ignition) sound to be independant to me. Did you buy the vehicle from a dealer or a private sale? If a dealer they've sold you a defective car and they need to fix it. You might want to get onto the state consumer protection people because it definitely sounds like a dodgy sale and it has only been 7 days.
I'm afraid it sounds like the body control module, which is what interacts with the key for central locking, immobiliser and ignition. If turning the key in the door barrel doesn't unlock the drivers door then you may need to get the universal key, a housebrick. Hopefully someone else might have a better idea. Perhaps see if you can open the boot with the key, and possibly try to get through the back seat to unlock the door?
Once you are in the car you can try overriding the immobiliser. First check if the security light stops flashing when you try to turn the car on. Often when there's a problem with disabling the immobiliser the car will seem to turn over but then die immediately. Usually the security light will illuminate when you turn it to "Ignition" in this instance.
To override the immobiliser it usually involves turning the key to "ON" for 40 minutes (or until the security light stops flashing) and then turning it to ignition. From my experience with other models once you've used the override once, unless you get it reset by a dealer or install a new BCM the override time will increase by 15-20 minutes. Not exactly convenient in a hurry, but then again you don't want every thief overriding your immobiliser in 5 minutes.

I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
i got it from a dealer in sydney. when the fuel issue first poped up i rang them (it happened the same day i bought the car and within 40 minutes of leaving the car sales yard), they said that it is not their fault and that they will not cover it, ring the warranty mob. however the warranty people wont cover it either. this is really starting to annoy me as i have a baby on the way and am stuck in the middle of nowhere.
the key unlocks the 2 rear doors, passanger door and the boot when i press the button yet the drivers door still stays locked.
deadlock issue fixed..
replaced filter and car started and drove fine.. next day wouldnt start.. no fuel getting to the motor.. pump still kicks in but shes no go...
soo now ive had enough, as i also now have a $7500 ambulance bill to pay as i couldnt get to hospital in my car.. thankyou anthony lahood motors, youve really outdone yourself..
oh warranty doesnt cover it
