I have a VT HSV Clubsport R8 just had lubemobile to run diagnostics because the engine wouldn't start. No trouble codes came back it has fuel, it has spark, it has compression, all the injectors light up, the plugs r all good. It was running fine until i recently changed the water pump and the power steering pully, now it wont start. It turns over and wonts to start but just wont. Any suggestions Please
Have you checked the timing? sounds silly, I know, but you never know when you remove the belt. Not sure how to check top dead centre on an LS1. I changed a head gasket on my first car in my first year of driving and ended up putting it back together exactly two strokes out, so had the sequence all wrong. It had fuel, spark, compression, the works, just wasn't the right firing sequence. lol
Quite honestly I haven't a clue if you can even screw the timing up with modern engines with electronic ignition and coil packs.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
First question would be to clarify whether you have a VT1 = Holden engine, or a VT2 = Chev/LS1 engine.
being a r8 it would have to be a ls1
Thanks to all of you who replied. I ended up taking it to Holden they fixed it in two hours. Problem was alltough it had 10 litres of fuel apparently that wasn't enough so after adding more fuel changing the plugs and cleaning out the injectors it decided to fire up. So much for Lube Mobile. Had to go to the pro's but i had to pay top dollar $455 Later. Not bad for 2 hours work.......
Dont bother with lube mobile or other companies of similar name/nature. Alot of them are not that good(though there is the odd one thats clued up). They are mainly for a basic service & nothing else. With 10 litres of fuel you car should have still run & started without a problem, you can start a car on a cupful of gas if you have to. On top of that most if not all gas tanks have reserve amount of fuel in them thats not registered on the fuel gauge, usually about 5-10 litres. Me thinks that something smells fishy with holdens service department. Average cost of mechanics labour $60-$75 per hour,so at most its $150 in labour. Where did the rest of the money disappear to??
^^ Bit more then that VTLS1. Labour rate at my work (Mazda dealership) is $99/hr. Most other places are about the same. So 2 hrs labour would be $200.
Depending on the type its quite possible for a full set of plugs (iridium) to be worth the other $255 he was charged.
well my rates were mainly based on an everyday general mechanic shop. last mech shop i worked in was $50 an hour,it was eventually increased to $70 an hour. place i go for my rwc charges $75 an hour. it all really depends where you go & probably a little of who you know. yes,i will agree dealerships do charge more & rates do vary between dealerships, which is why you should avoid them if you can help it. not only because of higher hourly rates but because the price they charge for parts is ridiculous. if a tradey can walk in somewhere for a part, then get an average of 10-50% discount(depending on the part) & wherever they bought it from still make a profit, then parts are to expensive unless you hunt around.
one example is,quite awhile ago i needed a toyota hilux chassis-normal retail $5500-normal trade price-$4500,i ended up getting it for $1200 & i know where i got it from(who shall remain nameless for various reasons) still made a good profit from the sale.
moral of the story, hunt around for the best deal, always get written quotes & if you can fix it yourself,do it yourself.
