Does anyone know if I can repack the bearings in this Assy?
Also whats the best price for a new Assy? Where?
From VR onwards they are a whole sealed unit and you need to replace the whole hub. I got a new one trade for about $195 but I know that some people have paid around $300+ for one
No they cannot be re-packed,they r sealed units.Dont go below $250 unless you wanna change'em after 6 months.Originally Posted by Logzy

I recommend checking out CBC Bearings - theyve got every bearing under the sun, and theyre everywhere too.
Im talking about genuine over-the-counter sale. Not back-of-the-truck or mate rate sort of an thing.Because i know how much they worth/cost.Originally Posted by jNINE

I am wondering now if my problem is actually the wheel bearings. :b:
I get a noise, that sounds like bearings, when coasting along from a speed between 50kms down to about 35-40kms.
The noise doesnt change if I apply the brakes and doesnt seem to change if I steer in either direction, I tried this as it would change the loads on the bearings and, theoretically should change the noise. (Thats my thought anyway.)
Could it be Tyres..???, Maybe
Could it be the pads..??, dont think so cause the noise doesnt change when I brake.
Has anyone else experienced this.??![]()
Hi jNine. I live in Darwin. I have been quoted $468.80 ea by the Holden agency and $360.00 ea by SKF. I would dearly love to know where you got your genuine parts from? Regards George HennessyOriginally Posted by VT_Acclm
I got mine from a Holden dealership in Brisbane. I pulled out my receipt the other day it was actually about $220 incl gst for trade price - that a few years ago now though. All I can suggest is asking someone in the motor trade to see if they can get one for you??
PS - yes VT Acclaim - my partner and I have a motorsport tyre & mechanical business and motorsport competitors so WE ARE genuine trade customers... Usually Holden is not the cheapest for all parts. We shop around at places like Fabre, Rocket, Brisco Butler etc etc...

My apoligies,
I received this in my inbox yesterday morning - but you obviously deleted the post:

How many people can do that?? I know how much they cost .But at the same time
person that was asking the question obviously NOT in the game like SOME so i had
to say the retail price and it was one of the lowest. We normally charge $345 for
each corner.
And as for pricing - you are probably right that trade prices vary... As I said we are low volume users at holden and therefore do not expect best price. I was merely trying to inform people that then can purchase them for cheaper than what you seem to be telling people (which I'm sure they already know after phoning holden anyway).
And aftermarket products from Supercheap are often the same manufacturer/product as Holden - take Mackay engine mounts for example...
Personally, I have found genuine Holden parts to be rather expensive, in comparison to the exact same item, different packaging....for example...a Harmonic Balancer for my Vee Pee is $265 from holden..but I got the exact same unit, fitted at me mates shop, for $160 !!!!!!!!he had a genuine one there, and we compared them...same manufacturer etc..........wind-guards for my car...$75 each from Holden...same product from Supercheap is $37.......electric mirror switch...$137 from Holden...$30 from Dick Smiths............the list is endless......
You infered that you were not sure whether it was the bearing in the first place . Check for play in bearing by lifting off the ground and take hold of wheel top and bottom, see if you can feel play in bearing . NO PLAY not bearing, spin wheel see if noisy.
Price depends on wether standard, or includes ABS and/or IRS
I have only found them available through SKF or Holden.
SKF for the plain vanilla was $220 inc after some haggling.
Now i have a fun saturday planned replacing em...
If your VT is made after the 4th month of 1999, the price dramatically decreases. I was quoted for my VTII 07/99 $250 (not trade) for mine, but if my car was made before 04/99 it would have been up around $400.
NGK Spark plugs.. $22 from Autobarn.. $38 from Holden.. Exact same products.. Barcodes were identical..Originally Posted by rattattack1313
I have a 'ticking' noise coming from my front left wheel... you think that might be hub bearings as well? Happens typically when in excess of 60km/h.
Yeah could be, start off by loading up front left wheel, eg. turn hard right and see if noise changes, then load up right side of car, eg. hard right turn, see if any noise changes. Whichever side makes more noise when loaded up is normally the bung bearing. Sometimes they seem like its one wheel when it turns out it's actually the other side.Originally Posted by myberlina
Step 2 is to jack up the car, then spin the suspect wheel and listen and feel for any noise/gritty feel when you spin it. Normally they sound like they're grinding when you spin them, but sometimes (like on mine and possibly yours) they make a ticking sound, i guess due to a different bit of the bearing screwing up than usual.
Sounds like a turd slinging match. Very amusing

So has anyone got any idea , what sort of tool to use to get actual bolts out of the wheel bearing.?
Mine wheel bearing hubs were purchased at Cheapauto spares for $100 each.
The Gregorys Book doesn't show how to remove the bearing.
