    Angry Oil Filter Stuck

So i'm 1/2 way through an oil change on the VT. I can't for the life of me get the damn filter off! I have done 3 oil changes before on this car with no problem at all.
I have tried using a filter tool to remove (anti-clockwise right?) and also used the screw-driver method as well but have torn the shit out of the filter.

Has anyone got any tips/tricks to remove the filter? Cheers

Not much help but next time get a K&N oil filter.. They have a hex nut welded on the back/top to make it a hell of a lot easier to get em off..

hmm, never had a problem with the filter... always just took them off by hand, even if they were a bit stubborn. Maybe try a bit of wd40 or rp7 also ask your strongest mate if he can have a go
The sump bolts usually the hard one.

done an oil change 3 times before & not sure wether its clockwise or anti-clockwise??,lol. i have had this happen to me a few times on different cars, dunno exactly why but someone did tell me once its something to do with heat expansion or something like that. a simple enough fix though, jack the car up like normal or put on a set of car ramps(ramps are a better choice) then get out the old hammer & a small cold chisel(a cold chisel is a chisel specific to use with metal in case you dont know). place the blade of the cold chisel on the end lip of the filter where it meets up to the oil pump then tap it with the hammer so it digs into the filter. once its dug into the filter you can belt the hell out of it. the shock should be enough to loosen it so it then can be undone by hand. sometimes it may get sticky & you may need to do it a few times.

Just tap a hole in it with a flat blade and then use that as a base to smash it out using a hammer and the screwdriver.

Haha just trying to add a bit of humour to the situation with the anti-clockwise comment ( before i start losing my sh!t). Thanks for the advice Re: the lip of the filter. Cheers

maybe a few light taps around the lip of the filter with a hammer. might loosen it.

Mate, use this method: From under the car get a hammer and a long flat head screwdriver, ok? Now place the blade of the screwdriver on the "lip" of the filter, you know, the end that is closest to the motor? Give the screwdriver some GENTLE but firm taps in the anti clockwise direction until it seats itself into the lip. As this occurs you can tap it a little harder. Once it starts to undo slightly and you can't turn it any more from that spot, then simply start again a little further back in the same postion you had the screwdriver in the first place. Two or three repeats of this and you'll have it loose.
Personally I don't understand why anyone just drives the screwdriver through the side of the oil filter! My method doesn't put a single hole in it, so you don't end up with oil running out everywhere either.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'

IMO an oil filter is an oil filter, you'll probably pay craploads for for the K&N name, that's all.

also a good idea to fill the filter up with new oil before you screw it on.less work for the oil pump & makes sure oil goes through engine quicker

2 reasons why some people use a scewdriver,1st is sometimes you dont have filter wrench handy & the buggers stuck on tight. 2nd is depending on where the filter is sometimes it pays to stick a hole in it for the remaining oil to drain out before you remove the filter as some are in a bugger of a place.

If you had read my post correctly you would have seen that I suggested using a screwdriver. Only instead of driving it THROUGH the filter, the other method is to tap the filter around using the lip of the filter, blah, blah, just re-read my other post.

I find it not necessary to tighten those filters as much as the manufacturers say! After seal contact is made, another half turn is ample. Just check after start up, that there is no leaking.
