    Default VT auto/manual difference.

I have just cooked my ecotec v6. costs an arm and a leg to fix. I have been offered a replacement engine but it is attached to a manual box. I need to know if the flex plate and flywheel are interchangeable. I know with the series 1 engines there are 5 and 6 bolt cranks. is this the same for the ecotecs. cheers

    hello in kiwiland
by the series 1,i assume you mean the old vn crummydore which have a different crankshaft between manual & auto(which was a pain in the bum) but for the ecotec engine the last one i did was a manual motor going into an auto car & had no problems.
personally,if your going to change the engine & the replacement engine has a manual box already on it,just bolt the hole lot in,change the pedal box & have a manual car

join the club matey. when i was still living there(dunno how it is anymore though) you could get away with anything. had a 302 windsor in a mark 2 cortina it was fun to drive but scarey as all hell & seemed like it took half an hour to stop,lol,v6 capri in an anglia, that was fun & bloody quick among many things, never really had to worry with engineers or any of that rubbish. the cops were easy as to,i remember i got pulled over by a cop going up north to helensville,i was driving an old mark 1 cortina. cop rocks up to the car, finds theres me & my mate sitting on a couple of beercrates for front seats. he looks twice, says have a nice day slowly turns around & walks away. hes just about at his car when he starts pissing himself laughing,so were we as we drove off

unfortunately our cops are now so wraped up in handing out revenue. oops speeding tickets and the such they tend to be rather hated now... shame really as they seem to be trying to sort out problems which didn't exist untill they thought of them haha

yeah, its ridiculous. the things we used to get away with in nz years ago were amazing. some of the stories & things we used to do were funny as all hell, defied logic but we just got a smile then have a nice day. driving cars down the dirt back roads with no tyres & just steel rims, nitrous on our cars, jam anything in a car to make it go quicker or whatever. the list was endless,as long as we werent hurting anyone else all seemed to be cool. theres no way i'd get away with half the stuff i did back then in nz if i did them now. the cops were just simply one of us in a uniform, now theyre just a uniform unfortunately. the wild west of auckland became no more & was tamed. when you had the mot & the cops seperate it was real good, when the mot went out the window & they all became cops it was slow ride downhill from there.
