Hey all i got a vt commy.
Running pioneer head deck with sony xplod speaker straight off the deck.
2 12" rampage subs powered from option audio mono block.
got a spare jvc 2 channel amp thinking of putting 2 6x9 in the parcel shelf.
i keep getting told if i install them it will defeat the purpose of subs.
i think it will sound better my opinion 6x9 in the rear are better than the door speakers because there up higher to your ears.
whats anyones installs in vts?
if you instal subs as well as 6x9s in the parcel shelf you get what is called bass cancelation, the sub bein sealed in the boot put will push the air up under your 6x9s and they wont be as effective.. best bet would be to either remove the parcel shelf speakers, leave the covers to allow the sub to vent into the cabin and get a set for your rear doors. Or vice versa remove the subs and power a decent set of 6x9s in the parcel shelf
i want to get more treble and vocals loder
If you run the 6x9s on a HPF it will be OK.
Might I suggest though that you will get MUCH louder treble and vocals by amping the front door speakers. Front door speakers putting out 50wrms each is going to sound louder and clearer than 4 speakers running of a H/U.

the rear speakers are basically just there for rear fill so it doesnt sound like you have sound coming from front only. i have a set 6.5" mtx splits in the front for my listening pleasure and a set of cheap 6x9 kenwoods in the back. both amplified on HPF. also ahve 2 12" pioneer premiers for my deep bass linewithout the 6x9s my sound system sounded like crap.
thats just my opinion though.
6x9's can be used in the right situation, but if you've got subs already in the boot then I personally would put as big a speaker as i could fit into the stock door fittings - good quality ones that are driven via an amp, not the head unit. Splits are a very good idea for the front and while they would help the back it's not essential, particularly if there's rarely ppl in the back.
If you are really dead set on putting 6x9's into the parcel shelf build them their own sealed boxes that won't be affected by the presures coming off the subs. Great deal more work involved but if you tune the boxes right it'll pay off.
so if i left the back door speaker running off the head deck and then run some splits in the front off an amp that would be good?
at the moment i have xplod 2 ways in the door and use the sub for the low freq
If you want louder or clearer ANYTHING (apart from bass), put better splits in the front, then run them off an amp.
Sony speakers are rubbish, and you should hardly hear whatever you have in the back

Yes, if you haven't already upgraded the fronts then that is definately the first step. I replaced the front speakers with some old focal splits i had lying around, had to cut some speaker mounts as they were smaller than the OEM Speakers but that wasn't too hard. Best bet is to take the old one out and down to your local car audio place to find one that suits the fit as that will make minimum work. Next, money isn't really tight, get a decent brand so they can handle some power, and then get an amp to match. If you head unit doesn't have a built in crossover (HPF/LPF settings - don't have current gear so might be called something else) then make sure you tell the blokes that so you get an amp that has xover settings in it so you can elimate the bass to the front end so they don't distort at high volumes. If you do the larger upgrade then also upgrade the speaker wiring, the OEM stuff is really thin and will probably restrict things, depending on how good you go. For the rears you can leave the factory ones, that's how i have it right now and it sounds ok, if budget is an issue start off like this, but perhaps buy a 4 channel amp so you can add the rear speakers later, or 1 2 channel amp powerful enough to run all 4 speakers, but make sure you mention your intention to do this as well so you don't end up with the wrong ohm speaker and amp combination.
I haven't been into car audio for years, infact I only picked up this car a few weeks ago and am putting in all this stuff i've had in my garage for years from my 'youth' so my lingo might not be quite up to par but i'm sure the basic principals still apply today![]()
