hey guys i bought a 2002 vx acclaim about 4 months ago with 190,000k's on it. misses dad looked over car when i got it his been a machanic all his life he said its good to buy been serviced every 10,000km then a few weeks ago i could hear a knocking noise when driving. Its the same when its cold and at normal temp it only comes in at 2000rpm idles smooth not missing ect. been to a few work shops and its coming from passenger side at rear of the motor there hinting bearings or piston slap. has anyone heard of this before?
sounds screwed,
Piston slap is usually worse when a motor is cold. I would be taking the sump off to have a look because a crook bearing could seize and punch the conrod out through the side of the block. It could also be the starter motor making the noise. Sometimes the starter gear can stay out so it is running on the ringear constantly and it will eventually wear out and make a knocking noise.
If you can, fit an oil pressure gauge into the main gallery and see what is happening. If it is a loose rod shell, the idle pressure will drop off dramatically when the oil is hot.
