Hey Guys,
I'm just doing a bit of forward thinking here and I was hoping to get some advice.
The VT I am driving is certainly nearing the pointy end of it's life, (424,000km) on original engine/trans. So much so that there is a bit of a pool developing with my friends as to how long it will last, my question is: How much am I looking at to swap out the engine and transmission (it's an auto) and replace with a somewhat, less travelled pair? As the body is sound and we have had this car for a long time now and would like to keep it around.
Also how does this price compare to a rebuild (I know a rebuild will depend entirely on what breaks and what overall condition it is in, just looking for an averageish price)?
Specifically it is running the V6 Ecotec, and is a Series 1 VT Commodore 1998.
As I said it hasn't gone yet, but when it does I would like to have a good idea of where to go from there.

This is on ebay at $400 and if you have to pay somebody to fit it, I am guessing that it will cost upwards of an extra $500. It is located in Vic and the auction has 4 hours to go. I know it is a way to go but at $400, for both motor and transmission plus $250ish for fuel there and back still works out cheaper than $600 for a motor then another $350 for for the transmission.
